‘Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Symphonic Suite’ Earns John Williams 25th Grammy

25th Grammy For John Williams Serious question.  What does John Williams do with all his awards?  Does he have a dedicated room for all the Oscars, Grammys and other numerous awards?  Or does he store them away in storage?  Well whatever he does, he has to add another one to the collection.  Another Grammy to be specific which makes it 25 for the composer.  He won the award for the ‘Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Symphonic Suite’ which apparently he penned after being inspired by a Disneyland theme park attraction.  That must have been some inspiration! The Grammys were the 62nd incarnation and it was 58 years ago that John Williams received his first nomination. You can listen to the five minute suite below which was recorded at Abbey Road, London with the London Symphony Orchestra.  The piece was a collaboration with composer William Ross who said: “We wanted to enhance the immersive theatre quality of the land with a new composition, and that seemed to intrigue him. He signed on

VIDEO: Steven Spielberg Interview Interrupted By Robin Williams. "The Laughing Hurt" Said Spielberg

During an interview where Steven Spielberg talks about the movie Hook, Robin Williams interrupts the interview to do what he does best, make people smile. At one point Spielberg explained they were laughing so much on the set of Hook, "the laughing hurt" said Spielberg.  He also explains how Robin Williams was at his most awkward when he had to play Pan as a straight guy with no imagination and humour which is depicted in the movie before Pan realises he is the Pan. Watching Star Wars In VR Made Me Feel Like A Kid Again

Movies In VR Are A Thing Of Beauty Recently, I decided to enter the Oasis and bought myself an Oculus Go .  If you're not familiar with what this is, it's basically an inexpensive introduction to the world of VR (Virtual Reality.)  It's a standalone device without the needs for cables that, although doesn't track your body movement does track your head movement giving the full VR experience.  It cost me £149 from Amazon (this is not a sponsored post) and I was eager to get my first taster of home VR.  Spoiler: I was not disappointed! The model I bought was the 32gb version, enough to see me install the apps I needed and copy across a few movies from my collection.  This process is simple.  Using the standard micro USB cable that is supplied, just plug it into your PC and copy your files across.  Since I had a few Star Wars movies this was my first choice. Next, I downloaded an app from the Oculus store called Skybox  which reads files installed on your VR unit

Photo of the day - Newspaper article from 1954 on John Williams

1954 Newspaper Article On John Williams John Williams, even back in 1954 at age 22 he was making people sit up and take notice of his natural talent.  I particularly like the opening lines to the article pictured: Someday, the words "music by Johnny Williams" will flash on your local theater screen. When this statement appears you will recall when Johnny was A/1c John Williams, AF 19389341, 523 Air Force Band, March Air Force Base. The article ends with the mention that the composer is soon to be discharged, intends on pursuing his interest of music and to write for motion pictures.  I wonder how that went? REVIEW - COSMOS Is My Favourite Movie of The Month. Heavily Inspired By Steven Spielberg

COSMOS Is A Must Watch I love a good movie and in particular I love a movie that has had a lot of inspiration from the talents of Steven Spielberg, George Lucas and John Williams.  COSMOS is most definitely one of those films. Elliot Weaver & Zander Weaver are the directors, writers and producers and it was Elliot who contacted me to say they've made a movie based on one of my favourite subject matters, the question of whether we are alone in the Universe.  COSMOS tells a story of discovery not from the perspective of a large organisation like NASA or SETI but through the eyes of three ordinary men, enthusiasts and amateurs, who find themselves at the centre of a series of events that could change our World forever. Is the signal authentic? What does it mean and will anyone believe them? Elliot told me "My brother and I are massive fans of all things Lucas, Spielberg and Williams and COSMOS was our love letter to the movies that inspired us to be filmmakers. We hop

Review - The Moviemaking Magic of Star Wars: Ships & Battles

The Moviemaking Magic of Star Wars: Ships & Battles Yes, you may have your tablets and phones to do most of your reading these days but for me there is nothing like a good old fashioned book when it comes to reading about a movie, in particular the behind the scenes aspect.  It may not be as interactive as an app but the information that is at your fingertips, the glossy photos and being able to flick through a book instantly cannot be replaced.  But, if you want a little bit more from a book then look no further than  The Moviemaking Magic of Star Wars: Ships & Battles by Landry Walker. Not only is the book packed with behind the scenes information on all the Star Wars films leading up to The Rise of Skywalker (the movie is mentioned with three pages dedicated to it.  Maybe a later edition will have more) including the anthology movies such as Solo and Rogue One but the book has a little trick up its sleeve.  You see as you read about each movie and how the special ef
