CBS announced today that Under the Dome will come to end with the episode airing September 10. Originally planned as a limited run, the series, based on Stephen King's novel and produced by Steven Spielberg's Amblin Entertainment, has lasted three seasons -- so it's probably fair to say it had a good run. "Two years ago, Under the Dome broke new ground in the summer and became an instant hit on CBS, as well as with viewers around the world," said CBS Entertainment chairman Nina Tassler . "Dome’s event storytelling and multi-platform business model paved the way for more original summer programming with the successful rollouts of Extant and Zoo . We’re excited to present the final chapter in Chester’s Mill as the story comes full circle, with the Dome coming down as dramatically as it went up." We'll find out what happens when the dome finally comes down in the concluding episodes of Under the Dome , airing Thursdays on CBS at 9/8c. ...

Most of you probably have seen images of this cover from Time Magazine, July 15th 1985 somewhere. But have any of you ever read the accompanying article ? In 1984 Steven, Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall founded  Amblin Entertainment   (even though the first film released as an  Amblin -production,  Continental Divide ,  had been released as far back as 1981) In 1985, only 1 year after it's founding, Amblin celebrated a glorious year,  with cinematic releases like Fandango ,  The Goonies ,  Back to the Future ,  Young Sherlock Holmes and the Pyramid of Fear and Spielberg's own  The Color Purple .  But Amblin also started to invade the smaller TV-screen in August of that year,  with the start of Amazing Stories on NBC.  The sky seemed to be the limit. With the founding of the DreamWorks Studio , Amblin Entertainment became less and less prominently active....

When the Steven Spielberg-produced scifi drama Extant returns to CBS this summer, it will count Jeffrey Dean Morgan as a regular cast member. Morgan will be playing a hard-drinking, womanizing "cop of the future" who has his life changed by Molly, played by Halle Berry. Extant tells the story of an astronaut, played by Berry, who returns to Earth after an extended solo mission in space with an unexplained pregnancy that sets into motion events that will alter the course of human history. 30 years ago Amblin released a couple of nice films, that were successful on very different levels. Since the years has only just begun, we won't dig into all the titles just yet, but today we kick of with the 30 th anniversary of Fandango . Fandango has some similarities with Road Trip , a comedy that was released by DreamWorks years later. Both films deal with a bunch of students who embark on a road trip through the US, but whereas the reason in Road trip is to retrieve a videotape, in Fandango the friends want to find out what life has to offer them, before facing up to uncertain futures in Vietnam (the film is placed around 1971) and otherwise. Both the director, Kevin Reynolds, and two of it's main stars, Kevin Costner and Judd Hirsch, were fairly unknown when Fandango was filmed. Reynolds was chosen by Steven Spielberg himself, when he had seen a short student film, based on a real life sky-dive, Reynolds had directed while on USC film schoo...

TNT has announced that it has ordered a pilot for the fantasy drama Lumen from Steven Spielberg's production company, Amblin Entertainment. Here is a synopsis of the show from The Hollywood Reporter : Lumen centers on a famous author of a best-selling series of fantasy books who suddenly disappears and a family of four who are transported to the mystical alternate world that inspired her work. Once there, however, they are plunged into the middle of a war raging between rival magical forces of light and darkness. Facing peril at every turn, the family must unravel a complicated mystery and uncover some astonishing secrets as they struggle to find their way home. Chris Black will write the script, as well as assume co-executive producing duties alongside Amblin's Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey.  The pilot will be directed by Joe Johnston .  No word yet on who will be joining the cast.
