Next up is a film that effectively split the fan community, but a film I immensely respect, Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017). Do you like the soundtrack to The Last Jedi?  Ever wished you could watch the movie without all the dialogue and still enjoy the magic of John Williams?  Well now you can.  Rian Johnson revealed the extra feature: The Last Jedi’s out today in the states for digital download, blu in two weeks. Of all the special features, my favorite one is kinda hidden, so wanted to call it out. Ever since the title of Stars Wars Episode VII came out, there has been speculation as to whether the title referred to Luke Skywalker, Rey, Ben Solo, Snoke, or someone else. But today, just when Lucasfilm needs some good publicity, director Rian Johnson has answered the burning question. Today, Cinemablend ran the following quote from Johnson: "It's in the opening crawl of The Force Awakens. Luke Skywalker, right now, is the last Jedi. There's always wiggle room in these movies --- everything is from a certain point of view --- but coming into our story, he is the actual last of the Jedi. And he's removed himself and is alone on this island, for reasons unknown." There are still plenty of questions to be answered this December, but but there's one down. Rian Johnson , the director of Star Wars: The Last Jedi tweeted a video today (you can watch it below.)  Celebrating Star Wars day, Rian says in the video: "Hey!  This is Rian Johnson, writer and director of The Last Jedi and I'm here with someone you might now." The camera pans to reveal John Williams .  Rian then asks Mr Williams if he has anything to say on this 4th of May.  The music maestro quite simply says: "I will say May the 4th be with you." Looper helmer Rian Johnson is said to be in talks and will begin working on Star Wars episode VIII.  Not just direct but write the script for Star Wars episode VIII.  Although not mentioned as yet on the official Star Wars website or any press releases sent out, Deadline are claiming the news is official. They say: I’m told that Lucasfilm is making a deal with Looper writer-director Rian Johnson to write and direct Star Wars Episodes VIII and IX. Essentially, that means that the intention is for Johnson to take the baton from JJ Abrams, who has gotten the space franchise off the ground and is right now helming Episode VII. I don’t know too much more at this point, but it is in keeping with Disney and Lucasfilm’s strategy of entrusting the venerable franchise to the best and brightest writers and directors, including the spinoff films that are being directed by Chronicle‘s Josh Trank and Godzilla‘s Gareth Edwards.
