And Why Not? …. Apply for the Barry Norman Student Bursary

The Barry Norman Student Bursary has been launched today as a fitting legacy to esteemed broadcaster and journalist Barry Norman.  It has been established to provide financial support into education for those who wish to follow in his footsteps and seeking a career in media, journalism or film. The Barry Norman Bursary will offer a grant of £2000 which will be jointly funded by the Barry Norman family and from sales of Barry Norman Pickled Onions which are sold in Waitrose, Tesco and Ocado. Students who have a conditional or unconditional offer to study on a relevant course within film, radio, broadcasting, television or journalism are invited to enter. To apply, a submission piece must be made, the creativity of which is up to the candidate but they must show a passion for the industry, have a financial need and an offer to undertake either a BA or MA course in 2018. Legendary Film Critic, Barry Norman Dies Age 83

Sad news today as we learn that the legendary British film critic, Barry Norman has died at the age of 83. A statement from his daughters, Samantha and Emma, called him "remarkable", adding: "He had a great life, a wonderful marriage and an enviable career." Norman's daughters added: "He leaves behind a family who adore him and a great roster of friends who love him too. We will miss him more than we can say." Norman hosted BBC One's "Film…" show between 1972 and 1998 - its longest running host - as well as writing for the Daily Mail and the Guardian. Spielberg fans will remember him for his interviews with the director in 1990 and 1997.  Reading his book a few years back, which I strongly recommend to get an insightful look behind the glamour of Hollywood, Norman commented on how he would look forward to interviewing certain actors and actresses and some he would absolutely dread.  Tom Hanks was mentioned by the critic as bein...
