Here's a gem of a photo.  This is the creator of Star Wars, George Lucas playing the Star Wars Arcade machine.  Easily the finest arcade machine to ever exist. Game play of the original Star Wars Arcade from 1983 complete with those excellent Vector graphics. Internal Memo Shows How Gremlins For Atari Was Based On Guessing If you loved video games in the eighties such as I did then you will know the often disappointment that would accompany a movie tie-in.  There are a few rare examples such as Batman for the Sinclair Spectrum 48K and the awesome Star Wars Arcade.  But, generally they stunk of a quick cash-in (E.T. anyone?) with poor graphics and even worse, actually having nothing to do with the movie itself. Admittedly one of the main reasons for the game not resembling the movie was generally down to the restrictions of the hardware at the time such as the memory size.  Try fitting an Indiana Jones adventure into a few kilobytes!  Well, they did try.  However, there is another reason why the game would be completely off on a tangent and that is due to the game being developed before the actual movie came out and often, a ridiculous deadline.  This was a familiar practise with the developers, programme...

I just has to share one of my latest additions to my Star Wars collection.  It's a sit down Star Wars Arcade machine.  Or at least a miniature version of one.  Probably the closest I will get to owning the real one. The original Star Wars Arcade machine was released in 1983 by Atari and remains my favourite and most memorable arcade machine. I purchased this model off Ebay from a seller who makes them to order.  Other arcade machines and pinball tables are also available. It cost me £14.89 plus postage.  The quality is outstanding and so is the attention to detail.  The model is incredibly light being made out of balsa wood.   Check out their website here too for more retro model arcade wonders. hugely recommended and this is going at the front of my collection to bring back those memories of wasting 10 pence after 10 pence in the arcade. Regarded as the worst game in the history of video games, E.T. The Extra Terrestrial by Atari was so bad and flopped equally as bad that the story goes the distributors rounded up the unsold games (of which there were a few) and buried them in a landfill somewhere in New Mexico. A team recently took up the challenge to dig up these ghastly games for a documentary produced by Microsoft Xbox.  The documentary will show the drastic change in the video game history and it's likely to come out next year. In the mean time the team tasked with digging up the games tweeted the following pictures today boasting their project has been a success.  Some of the games as pictured below are still shrink wrapped.  I'm guessing some of these will eventually find their way to Ebay. Steven Spielberg as you probably already know is a bit of a gamer and it was only natural when the director was doing one of his regular visits to Lucasfilm in the early 80's that he set his sites on the Star Wars arcade machine that just happened to be taking residence. Little did Spielberg know that the machine that was at Lucasfilm was being used and studied by Peter Langston (Ball Blazer and Rescue on Fractalus!) who was there for Lucasfilm Games (later to be Lucasarts.)   Lucasfilm actually had little involvement in the Atari arcade machine but the machine was shipped to Lucasfilm for reference and for Langston to study.  After studying the manual he discovered a switch that would convert the game into debug mode and allow all sorts of options to be applied.  One in particular was the option to freeze the game and using the fire button you could advance the scene one frame at a time and still move the cursor on screen and blast away those Tie-fighters ...
