The iconic THX 'Deep Note' sound you've been hearing before films screened in THX-certified movie theaters for the last few decades has just gotten a makeover. The original sound was composed in 1982 by Dr. James "Andy" Moorer when he was a sound engineer at Lucasfilm. The new Deep Note, also by Dr. Moorer, has been optimized for 7.1 and Dolby Atmos audio, while the previous one - although remastered through the years - was designed for 5.1 surround sound, tops. THX describes the updated sound as "intensely more complex" with the express purpose of "taking the audience on an epic sensory journey." Was that goal accomplished?
