Next up is a film that effectively split the fan community, but a film I immensely respect, Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017). "The George" Replaces The Wilhelm Scream In an interview with Good Morning America , sound designers for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, David Acord and Matt Wood revealed that there is a scream in The Last Jedi and other recent Star Wars movies that is referred to as "The George."  Speculation is that this is actually George Lucas and the designers refused to deny or confirm this rumour: “The Rise of Skywalker”, sources tell ABC News, also contains a deep audio Easter egg: a scream that is actually the voice of "Star Wars" creator George Lucas. The clip, affectionately called “The George”, was originally recorded for the director’s 1973 film “American Graffiti." It has appeared in several movies, including “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” and “The Last Jedi”. Steven Spielberg was handed the 'Legend of our lifetime' award at the Rakuten TV Empire Awards last night and took the opportunity to mention the 'Time's Up' movement. “It’s been a rich and diverse year for film and for gender and for race, and for speaking out. Thank you, Time’s Up. We were very much on board from the very beginning. This is more important than any of us can ever really realise.” He also confirmed that the fifth Indiana Jones movie will be shot in the UK which was met with a huge applause from the audience. During his speech Spielberg took the opportunity to thank the special collaborators he's had the fortune of working with over the years.  These included film editor, Michael Khan who Spielberg has worked with for 42 years.  Other mentions were Janusz Kamiński, Joanna Johnston, Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall and of course, John Williams. Do you like the soundtrack to The Last Jedi?  Ever wished you could watch the movie without all the dialogue and still enjoy the magic of John Williams?  Well now you can.  Rian Johnson revealed the extra feature: The Last Jedi’s out today in the states for digital download, blu in two weeks. Of all the special features, my favorite one is kinda hidden, so wanted to call it out. On the latest episode of ' KUSC Interviews ' Jim Svejda interviews John Williams to discuss his amazing work and his most recent work on Star Wars: The Last Jedi and The Post.  He did hint that Episode IX will be his last for the Star Wars franchise. “We know J.J. Abrams is preparing Star Wars: Episode IX now, that I will hopefully do next year for him. I look forward to it. It will round out a series of nine. That will be quite enough for me."  He also revealed that they recorded a total of 184 minutes of music for The Last Jedi and the movie came in at 2 hours 32 minutes so I wonder if we'll ever get to hear that unreleased music?  I suspect we will. Star Wars and John Williams.  Those two go together like fish and chips (yes, I'm a Brit) or bacon and egg.  Thankfully, we were treated to more from the maestro for the latest instalment of the space opera with The Last Jedi.  Director, Rian Johnson posted this wonderful video on his Vimeo account a few days ago and I just had to share with you.  It shows the composer conducting the latest soundtrack.  I don't care what anyone says, he hasn't lost his touch. You haven't watched Star Wars until you've watched it in space.  Well for the majority of us that's never going to happen, unless Elon Musk pulls another future tech invention out of his electric, Mars-loving hat in the next few years.  Anyway for a lucky few astronauts on-board the International Space Station they were fortunate enough to watch Star Wars: The Last Jedi while orbiting the Earth at 17,150 miles per hour.  Now the Force is definitely with them. Star Wars: The Last Jedi has done well over its opening weekend bringing in an impressive $450m (£337m) in global ticket sales.  Domestic ticket sales (US) were $220m (£165m) which although impressive is slightly down on Star Wars: The Force Awakens which brought in $248m (£167m.)  I think Lucasfilm and Disney will be extremely happy with those numbers making it the second best opener for an American movie, beaten by The Force Awakens of course. The nearest rival was the animated Ferdinand which brought in $13m (£10m.) One thing Lucasfilm and Disney will be relying on is the repeat viewing figures which for a Star Wars movie is a guaranteed amongst fans, however unlike The Force Awakens and Rogue One this incarnation seems to have fans split.  Just looking at the scores on Rotten Tomatoes show a split between critics and fans.  Currently critics give The Last Jedi an impressive 93% but fans are middle of the road at 58%.  Regardless of the split,...

W e've already posted our main spoiler-free review of Star Wars: The Last Jedi on our website and you can read that here , but I wanted to give my quick opinion on the latest offering from a galaxy far far away. For the last few months I've actually managed to avoid spoilers.  An almost impossible task when you are involved in a site such as this one, but I did it.  Like The Force Awakens two years ago I went into the cinema with low expectations.  It's a strange thing with me and big blockbusters such as this one.  The build up has an opposite effect on me.  Where all around me fans are getting hyped for the movie, I tend to take a step back and avoid the hype.  Also the constant barrage of trailers and trailers for trailers, brands teaming up with the movie and chatter on the web, well it wares me down and by the time the movie comes out I'm kind of sick of hearing about it.
