A much anticipated Sherlock convention that was due to take place sometime this year has no been put back until next year.  The event is being organised by Massive Events in association with Hartswood Films and Showmasters Ltd. The organisers took to Facebook and posted the following: "This has been one of the hardest tasks we have ever had to deal with and we now understand how difficult it must be to film the actual tv show as so many of the main cast are incredibly busy and popular! "We just wanted to let you all know that we really do care and we want to deliver the most incredible event we can and that is why things are taking a bit more time that we originally anticipated."  Were you all set to attend this event this year?  Let us know your thoughts. Sylvester Stallone has revealed how he (and we must agree) would have made a bad Han Solo. The Sunday Express said: The action man has revealed he was up for Harrison Ford's iconic role and reluctantly turned up to audition for the part following the release of his breakout movie Rocky. He took one look at Lucas and his sidekick upon entering the room and knew immediately he wasn't going to get the part. Stallone recalls, "After you've seen 100 people, you get tired, so you just hope the guy in front of you disappears... I got nowhere. "I said, 'Let me just make it easy for you; I would look like crap in Spandex, leotards and a ray gun. Guys from outer space don't have this kind of face'." This past weekend saw the long-awaited premiere of series 8 of Doctor Who -- and the highly-anticipated arrival of Peter Capaldi as the latest incarnation of the Doctor.  Those two things combined translated into really big numbers for BBC America! From Deadline Hollywood : The Season 8 debut of  Doctor Who  on BBC America  pulled in a record 2.2M viewers on August 23. Also, the Saturday’s 8:15 PM debut of Peter Capaldi  as the 12th Doctor in the long-running Time Lord series drew slightly more than 1 million adults 25-54. That’s a big jump from the 1.56M total viewers and 723,000 in the demo who watched the Season 7 premiere back in September 2012 — a record at the time. When added together with the 796,000 total viewers and 352,000 among the 25-54s with the 10 PM series debut of  Intruders , August 23 was the channel’s highest-rated Saturday night ever. In the U.K., the premiere on BBC One was the highest rated opening for Doctor Who since 2010: The launch was seen by 6.

Howard Shore's Lord of the Rings has once again been voted the number one soundtrack by Classic FM listeners.  That's five years in a row now. John Williams' Star Wars was a close second and our favourite composer was the most represented in the top ten with four entries. Harry Potter was number 10, Jurassic Park number 7, Schindler's List number 4 and the previously mentioned Star Wars number 2. But I have to question the listener's taste with Jaws only coming in at 31.  The other John Williams soundtracks in the list were Raiders of the Lost Ark - 15 E.T. - 19 Superman - 26 Close Encounters - 48 Seven Years in Tibet - 57 War of the Worlds - 77 Empire of the Sun - 79 War Horse - 99 Check out the full 100 here. Really sad news tonight as acting legend, Lord Richard Attenborough, star of Steven Spielberg's Jurassic Park has passed away at the age of 90.  The BBC broke the news. The news website report: He died at lunchtime on Sunday, his son told BBC News. Lord Attenborough was one of Britain's leading actors, before becoming a highly successful director. In a career that spanned six decades, he appeared in films including Brighton Rock, World War Two prisoner of war thriller The Great Escape and later in dinosaur blockbuster Jurassic Park. As a director he was perhaps best known for Gandhi, which won two Oscars. Lord Attenborough had been in a nursing home with his wife for a number of years, BBC arts editor Will Gompertz said. He had also been in a wheelchair since falling down stairs 6 years ago, our correspondent added. His family is expected to make a full statement tomorrow. We've seen numerous celebrities take up the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.  The original idea was to donate money to the ALS Association OR tip a bucket of ice water over yourself.  It seems the challenge has evolved into just pouring water over yourself and donating. I'm not complaining as it's been entertaining to watch.  But Sir Patrick Stewart has read the rules and just like the Captain he played in Star Trek The Next Generation done things properly by thinking things through first. Today we're going to be treated to more Doctor Who as Peter Capaldi picks up the sonic screw driver from Matt Smith tonight in the latest season of everyone's favourite time traveller on BBC1 and BBC America. To celebrate I thought I would show you one of the best Doctor Who collections I've seen.  A good friend of mine, Chris allowed me to take a few photos of his geek room which contains all things from Star Wars and Star Trek but mainly the room consists of Doctor Who.  What he doesn't know about the doctor isn't worth knowing.  Check out these photos.  I've slipped in there a few photos of his Star Trek ship collection too.
