We went into the first movie with only a passing familiarity with the source material, but we were quickly hooked by it, and like most everyone else, one of the key factors for us was this unknown Australian actor, Hugh Jackman, who played Wolverine. The actor and the character commanded the screen from the get go, with a roguish sense of mystery, and strong physicality.  There was the inescapable feeling of a complex, tortured soul in there, a soul capable of great good, and perhaps great evil. A Star Trek fan got more than she wished for from the Make-a-wish foundation when she visited Dragoncon.  A huge Star Trek fan, Dawn Garrigus suffers with mitochondria disease, a progressive illness that causes loss of muscle coordination, weakness and pain, seizures, vision and/or hearing loss, gastrointestinal issues, learning disabilities and organ failure. The 11-year-old's Make-A-Wish request was to simply attend DragonCon, a popular sci-fi and fantasy convention. Also visiting the convention was Captain Picard himself, Patrick Stewart and he heard Dawn was attending and decided to give her a huge hug and spent time for a chat with the fan. Dawn's mother, Kristy Garrigus, also said she had seen some positive changes in Dawn's condition since meeting Stewart. We've seen numerous celebrities take up the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.  The original idea was to donate money to the ALS Association OR tip a bucket of ice water over yourself.  It seems the challenge has evolved into just pouring water over yourself and donating. I'm not complaining as it's been entertaining to watch.  But Sir Patrick Stewart has read the rules and just like the Captain he played in Star Trek The Next Generation done things properly by thinking things through first.
