X-wing man is back!

Last year, you may remember Dave Taylor, who built a replica of an x-wing fighter in a shopping centre in Essex.  Well he's back! We chartered that epic design and build story here at The Bearded Trio, culminating in a time lapse of it being created. And this year, on international Star Wars day, we are pleased to exclusively announce that Dave is back. Later in the year he’ll be bringing his design skills to another classic Star Wars vehicle, this time from Return of the Jedi. Perfect timing for its 35th anniversary. Here’s a teaser, can you guess what he’ll be building? The Bearded Trio - The Site For Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, John Williams and a whole lot more.

The Return of the X-wing Guy: Building an X-wing part 3

Dave Taylor has arrived at his home town shopping centre in an attempt to complete his replica X-wing fighter, racing against the clutches of time. Little does Dave know that THE BEARDED TRIO have begun construction on their final chapter of his journey, one even more powerful than the first two chapters. At the end he may be something of a Dave star. When completed, this ultimate coverage could spell instant recognition for this Star Wars fan sculptor struggling to complete his most ambitious project ever... Okay, so I may have gently ripped off the opening crawl of Return of the Jedi, but then what better way to open the concluding third chapter of artist Dave Taylor's quest to build a replica X-wing fighter. I've followed Dave on his journey from pencil sketch through to finished article, complete with 30ft wingspan and 17ft long laser cannons.  If you missed those blood, sweat and cheers filled instalments you can catch part 1 here and part 2 her...

Building an X-wing fighter part 2: stay on target, stay on target

The second part of the making a replica x-wing trilogy sees - to paraphrase The Matrix - guns, lots of guns.   You can read part one here. As this Star Wars universe giant jigsaw of a model won't be seen in all of its glory until it is fitted together all we see mouth-watering glimpses of what a huge project this is. And it's all built by one man, Dave Taylor from Essex. Little wonder then that the first part chartering his own personal Star Wars journey amassed more than 2500 views in less than 24 hours. This week is crunch week – which almost sounds like something from The Great British Bake Off - as in less than a week the mammoth project doesn't just have to be completed, it has to be constructed for a Star Wars-themed Feel the Force day which will see it being constructed during the night at a local shopping centre. Exciting stuff, and that's something that it's artist,  sculptor and Star Wars fan Dave would say still say rings true. And ...

On an X-Wing and a prayer: Building a ¾ size X-Wing fighter

Last year you may remember a giant AT-AT appearing in a back garden, well this year a ¾ size X-Wing fighter is set to ‘crash land’ in an Essex shopping centre. The design force is with Dave Taylor from Westcliff-on-Sea who is recreating the iconic Star Wars spaceship 40 years  after its first appearance in the original Star Wars (I know, Episode IV: A New Hope, but to people of a certain age it’s still just plain old Star Wars). And he’s creating it one bit at a time and the constructing it like a huge 3D jigsaw the day before it is unveiled on Saturday 30 September at the Victoria Shopping Centre in Southend-on-Sea. Southend is no stranger to Sci-Fi, its famous for featuring in the opening chapter of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, a pier which Luke Skywalker himself ( Mark Hamill) paid a visit to a few weeks back as part of Jamie Oliver’s latest TV show.  Dave’s creation, complete with awesome 30 foot wing span, is even more astounding as he’s crea...
