This Classic Clip Is a Retro Treasure Trove. Every now and then you will get a gem of a video that will materialise out of nowhere and thanks to the awesome BBC Archives YouTube channel that's exactly what has happened. This clip is from the British news programme called "Newsnight" and is entitled, " Is the BRITISH SFX Industry in CRISIS? "  It features Bernard Falk with quite literally an explosive introduction.  He asks if with the lack of funding is the British special effects industry in crisis?   The clip just keeps giving in regards to movie history.  We get to hear from Oscar-Winning Brian Johnson who has set up a new FX company called "Arkadon."  Johnson explains that they face an uncertain future with little development being done in the UK for motion control and if it doesn't change and adapt to the techniques being developed in the US then they will go down hill fast.  Their reputation he explains is what is currently getting them work...

  Possible Clara-related spoilers for those who have not watched the episode "Last Christmas." In the lead up to this year's Doctor Who Christmas special, there was quite a bit of speculation about whether or not Clara Oswald's time in the TARDIS would come to an end. It was already confirmed a few weeks back that Peter Capaldi would be returning for the next series, but Jenna Coleman's status was left unaddressed. Now that the Christmas special has aired, the matter has been settled. According to the BBC , Jenna Coleman will return for series 9 - and not just for a few episodes, but for the entire series. This past weekend saw the long-awaited premiere of series 8 of Doctor Who -- and the highly-anticipated arrival of Peter Capaldi as the latest incarnation of the Doctor.  Those two things combined translated into really big numbers for BBC America! From Deadline Hollywood : The Season 8 debut of  Doctor Who  on BBC America  pulled in a record 2.2M viewers on August 23. Also, the Saturday’s 8:15 PM debut of Peter Capaldi  as the 12th Doctor in the long-running Time Lord series drew slightly more than 1 million adults 25-54. That’s a big jump from the 1.56M total viewers and 723,000 in the demo who watched the Season 7 premiere back in September 2012 — a record at the time. When added together with the 796,000 total viewers and 352,000 among the 25-54s with the 10 PM series debut of  Intruders , August 23 was the channel’s highest-rated Saturday night ever. Today we're going to be treated to more Doctor Who as Peter Capaldi picks up the sonic screw driver from Matt Smith tonight in the latest season of everyone's favourite time traveller on BBC1 and BBC America. To celebrate I thought I would show you one of the best Doctor Who collections I've seen.  A good friend of mine, Chris allowed me to take a few photos of his geek room which contains all things from Star Wars and Star Trek but mainly the room consists of Doctor Who.  What he doesn't know about the doctor isn't worth knowing.  Check out these photos.  I've slipped in there a few photos of his Star Trek ship collection too. On tonight's episode of Pointless which is shown on BBC1, one of the questions was to name famous people with a beard.  One of the options was one of the bearded trio, George Lucas who unfortunately no one guessed but was the best answer. The object of the game on Pointless is to get the lowest score by guessing the most obscure answer.  In this round George Lucas was the best answer with just 8 points.  However the Star Wars director was also compared to a thumb with a face drawn on it by the presenter Alexander Armstrong.  He also commented on the director's hair. I'm sure George doesn't mind.  Check out the video below. A new Doctor Who teaser trailer hit our TVs on Saturday.   It's blink and you'll miss it but you do get a glimpse of the interior of the TARDIS.  Peter Capaldi as the Doctor is sat on top of the TARDIS and simply says dramatically, "Listen!"
