Brad’s April Escape - Episode 6 April 9 - Jurassic Park Throughout this month, I’ll screen a film from The Bearded Trio Cinematic Universe and list 10 random scenes, characters, musical cues or performances that I particularly enjoy and look forward to upon every viewing. Next up is a film that to me, attained "classic" status instantly upon first viewing,  Jurassic Park (1993) Jurassic Park - An Introduction I saw this movie on opening night in the U.S., Friday, June 11, 1993, with my then-11 year-old sister. I knew it was a Spielberg film, so I was excited to settle into the theater to take this in. But my expectations were that of a "kiddie film." I expected the tone and actions of the characters would be that of a film aimed at 8-year-olds. Nothing wrong with that by the way, but that was my mindset as I arrived at...

The good folks over at ILM have released a five minute behind the scenes featurette on their YouTube channel showing the look at the groundbreaking virtual production technology used on The Mandalorian, Season One.  They reveal how they actually used the Unreal engine for virtual production.  Virtual sets mixed with real props and sets? We've come along way since Wing Commander III! Over 50 percent of The Mandalorian Season 1 was filmed using this ground-breaking new methodology, eliminating the need for location shoots entirely. Instead, actors in The Mandalorian performed in an immersive and massive 20’ high by 270-degree semicircular LED video wall and ceiling with a 75’-diameter performance space, where the practical set pieces were combined with digital extensions on the screens. Digital 3D environments created by ILM played back interactively on the LED walls, edited in real-time during the shoot, which allowed for pixel-accurate tracking and perspective-cor...

Step into the Oasis and take a look behind the magic of Ready Player One featuring visual effects by artists at Industrial Light & Magic. ILM release a three minute sizzle reel showing the different layers and artwork that went into bringing Ernest Cline's Ready Player One to the big screen which was directed by Steven Spielberg.  (Easily one of my favourite movies of 2018.)  You can watch the video below. Rob Bredow Gets New Role At ILM Rob Bredow has a new position at Industrial Light & Magic, the role is Senior Vice President, Executive Creative Director and Head of ILM. The announcement was made on Wednesday. Bredow joined Industrial Light & Magic back in 2014 as a Visual Effects supervisor and did such a good job that it wasn't long before he was promoted to Vice President of new media and head of Lucasfilm’s advanced development group. He's currently getting his hands dirty as VFX supervisor on Solo: A Star Wars Story which saw its world premiere last night in Hollywood. What does this mean for ILM?  Well, Bredow will now be in charge of the four studios which is located in Singapore, San Francisco, London and Vancouver.  His boss will be Lynwen Brennan Kathleen Kennedy had this to say about Rob Bredow: “I’ve been working very closely with Rob over the past two years on Solo...I have witnessed his leadership skills and creative abilities first-hand and ...

I was browsing YouTube the other day and came across this gem from the talented Minimum Wage Entertainment channel .  It's a series called 'The Kid Who Loved Indiana Jones' and there's 12 episodes in total and each one lasts about a minute with the longest one being just over two minutes.  It is obviously made by Indiana Jones fans and will take you back to when you played Indy as a kid.  It's perfect viewing during your lunch break.  I particularly like the use of the authentic sound effects.  The creators tell us: From creators Erin Gould (Casters) and Greg Tulonen (Ragged Isle) comes a web series for kids and for those that remember what it was like to be a kid.  A show that has been called “A Sunday comic strip brought to life!” (Erin’s mom) and “Calvin & Hobbes meets Indiana Jones” (Greg, one of the co-creators), it’s THE KID WHO LOVED INDIANA JONES. Here's a really interesting video showing every Oscar winners for Best Visual Effects from 1929 - 2017.  It's surprising to see the early effects and how good some of them were.  Also check out the late 70's and the 80's, ILM were on fire.
