Happy Birthday to Edgar (and Hoskins)

We've come to know him als Hoskins, the man who was hired to investigate and protect one (of many) InGen's hidden agenda's in Jurassic World.

But he crossed the paths of Amblin some 18 years ago, when he co-starred in Barry Sonnenfeld's Men in Black as Edgar the farmer, who lost quite a bit of his personality when he, as one of the first earthlings, met the alien 'Bug' race that wants to take down the Men in Black Organisation and control the universe.

Well, Hoskins, Edgar, or as most earthlings have come to know him: Vincent D'Onofrio, turned 56 today (June 30th).
Happy Birthday to you Mr. D'Onofrio, and I do hope to keep seeing a lot of you…

Artificial Intelligence: David's story turns 14

14 years ago today (June 29) Steven Spielbergs Artificial Intelligence, based on a story from Stanley Kubrick, went on general release in the US (after two premieres in New York (June 26, and Los Angeles June 28).

Artificial Intelligence deals with 11 year old David, a human cyborg adopted by Henry and Monica Swinton, two people who are still in mourn over the loss of their own son (who had an incurable disease and has been stored in cryo-stasis, untill that day his desease can be dealt with)

Starring as David is Haley Joel Osment, who, at that time was one of Hollywood's hottest child-actors, espescially since his success with/in The Sixth Sense.

As we had come to expect, the Special Effects Steven used didn't let us down either...

But one of the most amazing effects (as far as I was concerned) must have been Teddy (voiced by Jack Angel).

And of course the music,... Need I s…

Happy 10th to War of the Worlds

It's time for another celebration.

On this day, 10 years ago Steven Spielberg's adaptation of H.G. Wells' War of the Worlds went on general release in the US.

To celebrate this, let's take a few looks behind the scenes of the making of the film that had a 72-day shooting schedule, just like Spielberg's Schindler's List and Raiders of the lost ark before that.

Spielberg directing his main stars:  Tom Cruise and Dakota Fanning

The film was originally slated for a 2007 release, however when both the director and the star became available, it was decided that the new date would be 2005, even though that left Spielberg and his team only 7 months between the first day of shooting and the premiere.
To achieve that Steven decided to start off by filming the various mass-sequences first and he decided to step down from his usual storyboarding and opted for a digital Pre-Vis system George Lucas had demonstrated to him during the making of Episode III: Revenge of the Sith.

Last but not least, the show gets to meet David Manderville who has a unique take on what the Clone Wars has done for fandom.

Spielberg Spoofing Spielberg

Sometimes even Spielberg likes to make fun of himself.

Just look at his cameos in Gremlins, GoldmemberThe Blues Brothers, The Lost World: Jurassic Park (blink and you'll miss it), or Cindy Lauper's Video Goonies 'r Good Enough.

But there is more...

In 2006 he collaborated on Saturday Night Life for a sketch about...., well just watch and figure out what films he is making fun of for yourselves.

Enjoy Lasercats (7).

VIDEO - Steven Spielberg Playing Forza 6 On Xbox One

Steven Spielberg is a bit of a gamer as we know and was recently spotted at the E3 event at the Los Angeles Convention Center playing the latest Forza racing game that will be released on the Xbox One.  The racing setup is pretty impressive with three large screens, steering wheel and pedals.

In this video you get a brief glimpse of Spielberg playing the game around 6 minutes in.
