Spielberg on Spielberg: 'I Have a Lot More Patience Than I Ever Gave Myself Credit For'

For a recent episode of "Oprah's Next Chapter," Oprah visited Steven Spielberg in the same Dreamworks office where she'd auditioned for "The Color Purple" almost 30 years before. There, she and the acclaimed filmmaker sat down to chat about his newest project, "Lincoln." During the course of their conversation, other topics came up -- such as how Spielberg's children have impacted his work over the years...

OPRAH: I've seen the film ["Lincoln"] now twice. Saw it again last night. The first time I saw it, I woke up the next morning and I was still filled with it. And every time I speak of it, it makes my eyes water. I can't imagine what it took to bring that to life. And I want to know: How long did you dream this dream of "Lincoln"?

STEVEN: Well, I've been dreaming the dream of Lincoln like a lot of kids do when they're in school. When I was younger, my Uncle Bernard took me to the Lincoln Memorial and I saw…

BBC's Syndicate wins over Spielberg

STEVEN SPIELBERG has snapped up the the rights to BBC Lottery drama The Syndicate – after watching each episode THREE times.
The Jaws director is overseeing a remake of the hit series for US network ABC after falling for it.
The show’s writer, Kay Mellor, said: “He told me that he and his wife were avid fans of the show and he is now having a pilot episode written for US network ABC, based on the British version.
“He certainly knew everything about the show, which is perhaps not that surprising if he’d watched each episode three times.”
Kay said she thought she was the victim of a hoax when she was originally told Spielberg wanted to call her about the show.
Remake ... The Syndicate BBC She said: “My agent said he wanted my mobile phone number, but after four days of waiting for Steven to ring I thought it must be a joke.
“Then he called me when I was sitting at my kitchen table in casual clothes and slippers, working on the script for The Syndicate 2!
“He roared with laughter when I…

Do You Want To Write For The Bearded Trio Or Mention Your Site?

Are you interested in writing for The Bearded Trio?  Or maybe you have a similar website or blog that you would like mentioned.  Don't go to Fiverr or other sites where you have to pay.  Send me an email and I will let you know.  There are a few conditions.  This is a no-negative site so no posts bad mouthing any of the three or their companies.  Secondly your website or blog must have some connection to the general topics we cover here.  So for example I can't give a mention to a football site but I can for a movie site.

Look forward to hearing from you.  Email or send a message on the Facebook page or Tweet.

J.J. Abrams Makes Dying Man’s Wish Come True

Yesterday you may remember The Bearded Trio reported on the sad story about a terminally ill gentleman named Dan who would love to see the new Star Trek movie before he passes away.  Well after word spread on the web J.J Abrams has done the very descent thing and granted his wish. His wife reportedly received a call from director J.J. Abrams.

A friend of Dan posted earlier:

“JJ Abrams just called Dan’s wife and left a message. He’s going to try to arrange a screening for Dan, either of the film or at least of the 9 minute promo reel,”

Dan’s wife said that her husband had planned to see the extended “Star Trek” preview during a screening of “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” but was hospitalised instead.

Thursday, the friend who posted the original plea for help, updated Reddit users with the good news: “Holy cow everybody!!! I just heard from his wife that they are going to do it!! I don’t know who it what the path was to get there but thank you so much to everyone that tried to h…

Terminally Ill Fan Wants To See The New Trek Movie Before He Dies. Lets Make This Happen.

A terminally ill Star Trek fan has one wish and that is to see the new Star Trek movie before he passes away.  Unfortunately doctors have said he is unlikely to see pass May 2013.  A friend and wife of the dying man has posted on Reddit to spread the word to see if we can make this happen.  Apparently the movie Star Trek Into Darkness is more or less complete so there can't be any reason for Bad Robot to not allow this one request.  Spread the word people and lets make this happen.  Tweet to @Bad_Robot or/and Paramount, friends and anyone else.  If you've seen the movie Fan Boys then this will sound familiar but lets make it happen for a Star Trek fan.

Here's the post.

Behind the Magic: "Marvel's The Avengers" - Anatomy of a Shot

While "The Avengers" posed many visual efffects challenges, one of the larger challenges was pulling together the "tie-in" shot during the third act of the film. Rather than frames, this single shot is measured in minutes on screen and is one of the longest effects shots in the film. It incorporates both practical special effects and extensive digital visual effects by ILM. The New York City environment that serves as the setting for this shot (and virtaully the entire alien invasion) is computer generated by the visual effects team at ILM.

Star Wars Xmas Cheer Week Day Five Whats More Than One Han Solo?

JJ Abrams on Star Trek Into Darkness: First Trek movie not a requirement.

“This movie doesn’t require you have seen the first movie,” says Abrams. “The characters are a group of people who have recently come together and find themselves up against this incredibly terrifying force. His name is John Harrison and he is sort of an average guy who works in an organization called Starfleet – that is what makes him so scary – and he turns against the group because he has got this back-story and this kind of amazing secret agenda. After two very violent attacks, one in London and one in the US, our characters have to go after this guy and apprehend him. And it is a far more complicated and difficult thing then they ever anticipated. Into Darkness is very much about how intense it gets and really what they are up against.”

JJ Abrams however is turning to the 3D dark side.

“I had never done anything in 3D and frankly it was a format that scared me a little bit because I really loved the sort of purity of the 2D. But I have to say – especially because we filmed in IMAX …

JJ Abrams Was Offered to Direct "Star Wars: Episode VII" Read more:

Empire magazine sat down with JJ Abrams, who revealed that Disney already offered him the chance to direct "Star Wars: Episode VII," but he turned it down.

"There were the very early conversations and I quickly said that because of my loyalty to 'Star Trek,' and also just being a fan, I wouldn't even want to be involved in the next version," he explained. "I declined any involvement very early on. I'd rather be in the audience not knowing what was coming, rather than being involved in the minutiae of making [the films]."

"Star Wars: Episode VII" is still without a director, but Matthew Vaughn (X-Men: First Class, Kick-Ass) is rumored to be up for the job. Production will begin sometime in 2013 and then the movie will hit theaters during the summer of 2015.

‘Star Trek: The Video Game’ gets April 23 release date

Paramount Pictures and NAMCO Bandai Games officially set a release date of April 23 for the title. The game will be available for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC, and the release date puts it almost a full month ahead of J.J. Abrams’ much anticipated follow-up to his 2009 reboot of the landmark television series.

But don’t expect the game to offer any hints — or spoilers — on “Star Trek Into Darkness,” which will be released May 17. “Star Trek: The Video Game” features an original story penned by Marianne Krawczyk, a veteran of the “God of War” series. The game allows players to assume the roles of either Capt. James T. Kirk or Spock and promises a different experience tailored to the personalities of each famed “Trek” character.

Still unknown is whether a Wii U edition of the game will be released. When pressed, a spokesman for NAMCO simply reiterated the release date for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.

Pre-orders for these platforms will begin Friday at most major retailers. Those who commit to…

Merlin villain Katie McGrath wants Star Wars: Episode VII role

In the UK Merlin finished yesterday (24th Dec) and I for one am sad its finished.  But if she has anything to do with it we may get more of Katie Mcgrath who played Arthur's nemesis Morgana.  She has said she wants some of the Star Wars VII pie.

In a recent interview with Metro, the actress said "I'm very excited about the possibility they could be like the first three, I'm a bit scared they might be like the prequels, I'd melt into a puddle on the floor if that ever came my way. I'd be a ball of jelly. I'd want to be a bad guy though.

You get to have all the powers of a Dark Sith Lord but if you say you're sorry you still get the blue aura around you when you die.

There also haven't been any bad women in Star Wars. And I'd love to get my own Star Wars action figure."

I for one could see her as a sith or as a villain and from the sound of it she's a fan of the franchise.  Although she should watch The Clone Wars for female villain goo…
