Movie Review: "Teen Titans Go! To The Movies" is a Cheap "Deadpool" for Kids

TEEN TITANS GO! TO THE MOVIES Featuring the voices of Scott Menville, Tara Strong, Hynden Walch, Greg Cipes, Khary Payton Kristen Bell, Wll Arnett, Patton Oswalt, Jimmy Kimmell and Nicolas Cage Written by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic Directed by Aaron Horvath and Rida Michali Reviewed by Patrick Gibbs  Out of Four There are few kiddie cartoon shows that are more fiercely divisive among grown up audiences than Teen Titans Go! Some few it as a tragic sellout version of the popular version of Teen Titans that came before it, and others see it as a gloriously silly pop culture spoff full of sly wit that knows not to take itself too seriously but provides plenty of fun for all. While personally, I'm a Young Justice guy who never really got into either show, I can't help but feel that those who praise the genius of this version really need to watch more Phineas and Ferb . For those of you who actually have a life, the Teen Titans here are: Robin (Scott Menvill

Movie Review: "Mission: Impossble - Fallout" Raises The Bar For Modern Action Films

Mission: Impossible - Fallout Starring Tom Cruise, Henry Cavill, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg,  Rebecca Fergusson,  Sean Harris, Angela Bassett, Vanessa Kirby Michelle Monaghan and Alec Baldwin Based on Mission: Impossible created by Bruce Geller Written and Directed by Christopher McQuarrie Reviewed by Patrick and Paul Gibbs   Out of Four After 22 years and 5 films, Mission: Impossible should absolutely be running out of steam as a franchise. None of the films has been overly strong on plot, their star is not the number one box office draw he used to be, and it's easy to dismiss all of this this as same old same old. When a 4th film was announced after JJ Abrams' supposed wrap up, people thought that Tom Cruise might be getting a bit desperate. And maybe he is. But that desperation has resulted in a second trilogy that is actually better than the first (how many of those can you point to?) and a commitment to providing spectacular, practical stunt based thril

VIDEO - Behind The Scenes Documentary On 1978's Superman

Superman:  The Making of a Classic 1978's Superman is a classic movie.  I grew up in the 70's and 80's and the Superman movies starring Christopher Reeve as the flying hero really captured my imagination when I was a kid.  Margot Kidder was not only Superman's Lois Lane, she was my Lois Lane too.  No doubt the same can be said for most kids who loved these movies. It was unexpected and incredibly sad news to hear the passing of Margot last week.  I met her a few years back and she was a lovely lady to have a general chit chat with.  She will be missed. I was browsing YouTube for videos to remind me of Margot's special performance as Lois Lane and came across the feature length documentary on the Superman movies that featured on the DVD.  As behind the scenes docs go, this is up there with some of the best.  Everything is discussed from casting to the opening credits to the epic soundtrack by John Williams.   Sit back and enjoy a detailed insight into how t

Movie Review: Denzel Washington Becomes "The Sequelizer"

THE EQUALIZER 2 Starring Denzel Washington, Pedro Pascal, Ashton Sanders, Bill Pullman   Jonathan Scarfe, Orson Bean  and Melisso Leo Based on The Equalizer created by Michael Sloan and Richard Lindheim Screenplay by Richard Wenk Directed by Antoine Fuqua   Out of Four There has been a lot of hype regarding the fact that The Equalizer 2 is Denzel Washington's first sequel (conveniently ignoring the fact that the first one is arguably the only movie in his career that really lends itself to one. Glory, Philadelphia, Cry Freedom, Fences  and even Crimson Tide weren't exactly franchise builders.). A few years after the events of the 2014 film, Robert McCall (Washington) now lives in a diverse apartment complex in urban Massachusetts, working as a Lyft driver and helping the less fortunate with the help from his old friend, Susan Plummer (Melissa Leo) who is still a highly placed official in the government agency McCall worked for in his previous life (the one whe

Generation Games Retro Gaming Exhibition Review - Pontypool Museum

Generation Games Exhibition Is A Retro Blast Having watched Steven Spielberg's excellent version of Ernest Cline's Ready Player One and now having the movie available for home viewing, I can't help but  feel in a bit of a retro gaming mood.  Actually, that's a lie as I'm always in a mood for retro gaming.  I just wanted an excuse to post this here and make it kind of relevant. Today I visited Pontypool Museum in South Wales as I've been told they have a retro gaming exhibition.  I just had to check it out and I was impressed.  The exhibition is called Generation Games and concentrates on the video game consoles from the 1970's to present day.  What's more, everything on display is owned by one person, Samuel Anstree.  What a collection and he's not stopping.  His objective is to have one of every game console ever released in the UK.  Judging by this collection he can't be far off. This exhibition which is a partnership between Torfaen Mu

INTRADA Announces Alan Silvestri's THE MUMMY RETURNS

THE MUMMY RETURNS Music Composed and Conducted by ALAN SILVESTRI INTRADA ISC 404 It’s one of the best-sounding recordings of any film I’ve ever done...the energy and the power in the recording of that score—it’s still one of my favorite recordings of a score I’ve done. – Alan Silvestri For Universal Studios' sequel to The Mummy, composer Alan Silvestri took the reigns and composed one of the largest epic scores of his career. He describes the score for The Mummy Returns as "Errol Flynn" – a score filled with swashbuckle, honor, adventure, damsels, just like an old pirate movie. The score features a snarling brass idea for the bad guys, a mystery motif on English horn for the Scorpion King, and a general sense of Egyptian mystique and ancient secrecy. Silvestri carries this exoticism into his love theme for Rick and Evy, a romantic melody that suggestively sizzles with the desert adventures and sexual chemistry. All this performed by a 100-piece orchestra and 60-

INTRADA Announces Jerry Goldsmith's THE MUMMY

THE MUMMY Music Composed and Conducted by JERRY GOLDSMITH INTRADA ISC 402 Intrada's latest release is from Universal Studios' thrilling 1999 adventure The Mummy. Composer Jerry Goldsmith wrote and recorded nearly 100 minutes of music with nods to his beloved action-and-suspense vernacular of the late ’70s and early ’80s, an era he seldom looked back upon by 1999. By the '90s, Goldsmith was usually rooting his rhythmic ideas in heavy doses of electronics. Here, however, Goldsmith revisited a musical language he had largely moved away from, using real percussion and low brass and strings to deliver almost all the rhythms. And to emphasize the Egyptian locale, Goldsmith employed the exotic color of a bouzouki, a mandolin-like, Greek instrument to provide regional color. In the end, The Mummy was one of the biggest box-office successes in Jerry Goldsmith’s career. At the time of the film's release, Jerry Goldsmith and engineer Bruce Botnick selected 57 minutes of highli
