Crossing the Frontier - The Making of The Last Starfighter

Following on from our post yesterday on a possible sequel or reboot of The Last Starfighter being talked about here's a 'making of' featurette on the 1984 classic.  Hosted by Lance Guest. The Last Starfighter is a 1984 science fiction adventure film directed by Nick Castle. The film tells the story of Alex Rogan (Lance Guest), an average teenage boy recruited by an alien defense force to fight in an interstellar war. It also featured Dan O'Herlihy, Catherine Mary Stewart, Robert Preston, Norman Snow and Kay E. Kuter. The Last Starfighter, in addition to Disney's Tron, has the distinction of being one of cinema's earliest films to use extensive computer-generated imagery (CGI) to depict its many starships, environments and battle scenes. The Last Starfighter was Preston's final film role. His character, a "lovable con-man", was a nod to his most famous role as Harold Hill in The Music Man. Sequel To The Last Starfighter In The Works?

Could The Last Starfighter Be Back For More Defending Of The Armada? Yahoo! took a look back at The Last Starfighter, the cult 1984 movie using cutting edge (for the time) CGI effects.  Starring Catherine Mary Stewart, Lance Guest and Dan O'Herlihy the film was a slow burner back in the 80's, initially not doing that well at the box office.  But Video hire sales and later video and DVD sales has seen the film blossom to become regarded (quite rightly) as a cult classic. With fans such as Edgar Wright and Steven Spielberg, there have been talk of a reboot or a sequel for some time and screenwriter Jonathan Betuel mentioned just this very thing in the Yahoo! article. “There are a lot of things going on that will see the light of day,” he said.
