Movie review for George Lucas' Strange Magic   **Contains Mild Spoilers** Strange Magic is the first film from George Lucas since selling Star Wars to Disney back in 2012. It’s an animated fairy tale loosely based on Shakespeare’s A MidSummer Night's Dream . A large part of the story (by Lucas) is told through the use of popular music, with characters frequently bursting into song to convey their emotions and advance the story. The plot revolves around a love potion, greatly desired by the varied denizens of both the Light Forest and the Dark. Fairies, elves, goblins, and imps all vie for possession of the potion in order to satisfy their respective goals - Some for good, some for ill, and some for pure mischief. "Strange Magic" Press Conference - George Lucas Cares Less About Critics These Days. George Lucas seems to not care much these days when it comes to critics.  Speaking in Singapore last week to promote Strange Magic in which he wrote the story for, he took no time to criticise the critics  and those fans who dislike his movies.  The retired director said at a Lucasfilm building last week: "I am not looking to make a hit movie...I'm just doing something that I want for my own reasons. Some of them are hits, some are films that people like, and some aren't. For me, the real reason is doing it... obviously, I've done some films that haven't worked and I have done a lot of films that have worked," he said. With 'Strange Magic' out next week and a story by George Lucas it seems this may not be the last movie for George Lucas.  According to a quote from the Star Wars creator in LATimes, the retired director still has plenty of ideas, all be it on a smaller scale to what we've been used to: The 70-year-old “Star Wars” creator currently is writing two new features, both experimental movies that hearken back to his student days at the University of Southern California. The director of the upcoming Strange Magic which has a story by George Lucas has nothing but praise for the retired Star Wars creator.  In an article with USA Today, Gary Rydstrom says the skills that George Lucas had for Indiana Jones and more is still there. Strange Magic director Gary Rydstrom says Lucas retains the creativity and skills that were showcased with that galaxy far, far away, the Indiana Jones franchise, the 1960s-set American Graffiti, the fantasy fare of Labyrinth and Willow and other blockbusters.  Rydstrom saw it when Lucas, an executive producer of Magic, would get down to business in the editing room. Fandango has released a featurette for George Lucas' latest film Strange Magic . The animated comedic fairy tale is based on William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, and it tells the story of goblins, imps, and fairies as they battle over a magical potion.
