Monkey Island Theme Played On Floppy Drives

Monkey Island with that mighty pirate...what was his name?  Fancy Pants?  No, no Guybrush Threepwood, that's it.  Well if you loved the Lucasarts game you would have bound to have fallen in love with the theme tune.  Well here's a rendition with a little extra retro.  The main theme tune from the game played on floppy disk drives.  Enjoy.

You can play the Monkey Island Insult sword fighting game from your browser

Play The Insult Sword Fighting Game From Your Browser I am rubber you are glue! The interweb is now complete. Yes you can play the famous insult sword fighting game from Lucasarts Monkey Island right here on your browser. That clever modder Karza has done a service so great I think he should be given a T-shirt saying "I created this insult game and all I got was this lousy T-Shirt" The game is well polished. You get an introduction just like in the original game with Guybrush Threepwood talking to two pirates around a camp fire. After a brief conversation you then select your opponent from the map and that's it you are thrust into your first insult sword fight. Featuring great retro music and sound effects this will bring back memories of the original. It features two difficulty settings, easy which contains insults from the original game and hard which takes insults from the third. All this and its free! Definitely added to my favourite links. Play the ...

Taking A Closer Look At The Star Wars Influence In Lucasarts' Monkey Island

Star Wars In Monkey Island In the early 90’s, Lucasfilm Games, which would eventually become Lucasarts, had, it seems the Midas touch with adventure games.  Using their unique SCUMM system, which stood for “Script Creation Utility for Maniac Mansion” it brought point and click games to a wider audience with classic games such as Monkey Island, Indiana Jones and Sam & Max. What made these games stand out from the crowd was their graphics, studio quality music and sound effects, their pick up and play feel and most importantly the script.  When it needed to be funny the game was genuinely laugh-out-loud funny, which was and still is rare for a video game.  The creators of the games also had the ability to make you care about the characters in the game and bring them to life with their unique style of writing. One particular game had this in abundance.  That was of course The Secret of Monkey Island released in 1990.  Designed by Ron Gilbert, with Tim S...

From Bedrooms to Billions: The Amiga Years! Review

'From Bedrooms to Billions: The Amiga Years!' is a feature film documentary that takes you on a detailed, and I mean detailed journey through the development, and life of the Commodore Amiga. If you grew up in the 80's and 90's then you will know how cool the Amiga was.  I remember the first time I powered up my Commodore Amiga 500 and dropped 'Shadow of the Beast' into the disk drive.  I was blown away by the graphics, sound and music.  Especially as my previous computer was a trusty ZX Spectrum and that's how it was for millions of computer users in the late 80's.  Going from a Speccy or C64 to this leviathan, this monster of a machine was mind blowing. The Amiga introduced me, for the first time to classic games such as the mighty absorbing Lucasarts titles.  The Secret of Monkey Island and Indiana Jones were just a few games that were new to me and it was the Amiga that allowed me to experience the talents of Ron Gilbert and Tim Schafer for...

Disney Retire Monkey Island Plus More From Mobile Library

Disney Interactive Studios are having a clear out and retired a significant number of its mobile games on all platforms and one of those that stands out is Monkey Island .  It means the company will no longer be running any support for the game.  It may even disappear from the listings when doing a search on your app store.  However you can still download past purchases so your game will still be there. "Although the decision was difficult to make, this will allow us to focus on building new and more engaging games," Disney writes in the announcement. On a positive spin, could it mean that Disney are ready to sell Monkey Island to Ron Gilbert who said he would love to make more Monkey Island if Disney would let him.  We can only hope. Ron Gilbert Explains What He Would Do If He Was Making Another Monkey Island

Creator of Monkey Island. Ron Gilbert took to his blog last year and explained what he would do if he was given a chance at making another Monkey Island.  Before we all get excited the talented game developer said:  I am not making another Monkey Island. I have no plans to make another Monkey Island. I am not formulating plans to make another Monkey Island. That's a shame but it is interesting to read what he would do if given the chance.  It would be a retro game that harkened back to Monkey Island 1 and 2.  I'd do it as "enhanced low-res".  Nice crisp retro art, but augmented by the hardware we have today: parallaxing, depth of field, warm glows, etc.  All the stuff we wanted to do back in 1990 but couldn't.  Monkey Island deserves that.  It's authentic.  It doesn't need 3D.  Yes, I've seen the video, it's very cool, but Monkey Island wants to be what it is.  I would want the game to be how we all remember Monkey Island. ...
