Last night, the retrospective series  The Doctor's Finest   made it's debut on BBC America. Hosted by Hannah Hart, the series airs during the six-week period leading up to the premiere of Doctor Who , and focuses on essential episodes of the modern era. In the first episode, the 10th Doctor episodes "Blink" -- always a fan favorite -- and "The Waters of Mars" were discussed. Doctor Who returns on Saturday, September 19, and in preparation for that event BBC America will be taking a look back at the best of the modern era with an all-new six-week series, The Doctor's Finest . Each week, the series -- hosted by YouTube celebrity Hannah Hart -- will present the most essential episodes along with special guests, interviews, and analysis. Also featured will be previews of the upcoming series of Doctor Who . Doctor Who has just finished up its highest rated season ever since coming to BBC America in 2009 with an average audience of 2.04 million viewers. In addition, the Doctor Who Christmas Special, "Last Christmas," landed the number one spot for a non-sports cable telecast with 2.62 million viewers. The episode more than doubled the figures for 2010's special, "A Christmas Carol." Doctor Who is one of the 10 most-tweeted about cable dramas on Twitter for 2014, and BBC America was the number one network on both Twitter and Tumblr. This past weekend saw the long-awaited premiere of series 8 of Doctor Who -- and the highly-anticipated arrival of Peter Capaldi as the latest incarnation of the Doctor.  Those two things combined translated into really big numbers for BBC America! From Deadline Hollywood : The Season 8 debut of  Doctor Who  on BBC America  pulled in a record 2.2M viewers on August 23. Also, the Saturday’s 8:15 PM debut of Peter Capaldi  as the 12th Doctor in the long-running Time Lord series drew slightly more than 1 million adults 25-54. That’s a big jump from the 1.56M total viewers and 723,000 in the demo who watched the Season 7 premiere back in September 2012 — a record at the time. When added together with the 796,000 total viewers and 352,000 among the 25-54s with the 10 PM series debut of  Intruders , August 23 was the channel’s highest-rated Saturday night ever. Details have been released regarding some exciting events leading up to - and including - the series 8 premiere of Doctor Who .  First up, BBC America has a whole slate of specials planned for their Doctor Who Takeover Week .  Here's what you need to know: 1. Comedian and Doctor Who superfan Chris Hardwick will host Doctor Who: Live Pre-Show at 7:30 p.m. ET and Doctor Who: After Who Live at 11 p.m. ET following the premiere of Intruders on August 23. The pre-show and post-show will feature an array of guests in the studio including writer and actor Mark Gatiss along with exclusive behind-the-scenes footage. 2.
