7 Movies That Are Instantly Recognisable Thanks To John Williams

John Williams.  His music is instantly recognisable and some more than others.  Here are seven movies that every one will instantly recognise thanks to the maestro, John Williams1 - Star Wars
It's one of the biggest franchises in the world and has been since it exploded on to the big screen back in 1977 and of course it needed a soundtrack to compliment the excitement on screen and Williams didn't disappoint.  In fact, when George Lucas heard the soundtrack for the first time during the making of A New Hope, the director said that the music was one of the few elements that exceeded his expectations.

2 - Indiana Jones
Adventure!  That's the emotion the theme to Indiana Jones evokes.  Thanks to Steven Spielberg we get two for the price of one in the signature piece.  When John Williams was writing the music he went to Steven with two versions for the melody.  Spielberg asked "can't you use both?"  So he did and we get the familiar tune in section A and B.

Poster Released For The Mandalorian

A brand new poster for the upcoming live action Star Wars TV show, The Mandalorian has been released at D23 Expo.   The binary sunset is very much prominent in the poster, a scene that is  connected with Tatooine, Luke's home planet that we first visited in Star Wars A New Hope.  You can almost hear the John Williams theme being played.

Expect more Star Wars news over the weekend from the Expo.  “The Mandalorian” begins streaming on Disney+ on November 12th.

John Hammond Costume And Steven Spielberg Signed DNA Animation Cel To Go Under The Hammer

John Hammond Costume and Signed Cel From Jurassic Park To Go Under The Hammer Who would like to look like John Hammond from Jurassic Park and be screen accurate at the same time?  Well thanks to the upcoming film memorabilia auction from Prop Store and if you have an estimated £15,000 to £25,000 spare then you can do just that as this costume will go under the hammer from 30th September.  Well John did say he spared no expense.

The upcoming movie and TV memorabilia auction has around £6 million worth of merchandise.  You have your usual Star Wars props such as Mace Windu's lightsaber from Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith and a Screen-Matched Tantive IV Stormtrooper Helmet from A New Hope.  But I'm more interested in the Spielberg related products such as that John Hammond costume.  Too rich?  Well what about a Mr DNA Animation Cel Autographed By Steven Spielberg himself.  That's estimated to sell for £600.   A bit more down to earth or maybe the equivalent of a coupon day o…

Superman In Concert Announced

John Williams Masterpiece, Superman To Get The Concert Treatment If someone asked me what my favourite John Williams soundtrack is, I would rub my cheek, ponder the question and then resign to the fact that I can only give you a top five at the least.  I can't give you a favourite, that would be like someone asking who your favourite son or daughter is.  What I would say is that the soundtrack to Superman would most definitely be in the mix.  That iconic signature piece and the opening credits will always wake the goose-bumps.   Imagine for a moment what this powerful soundtrack would sound like in a live environment?  Oh, just the thought is making me smile.  Well thanks to Film Concerts Live, that very scenario is a possibility.   It's only just been announced and at the time of writing this the dates and locations were not on their website but stay tuned for further updates.  Here's the press release and the link to their website.

STAR WARS NEWS: Ewan McGregor Signs Up For Obi-Wan TV Series

Well hello there.  A live action TV series featuring Obi-Wan Kenobi?  Don't mind if I do and starring everyone's favourite Obi-Wan, Ewan McGregor. Cinelinx broke the news exclusively yesterday and big sites such as Deadline, Hollywood Reporter and Variety backed up the story to give it some weight of authenticity.   Apparently McGregor has already signed a contract and it's more or less a done deal that we will get a live-action TV series heading it's way to the Disney+ streaming subscription platform.

Cinelinx tells us:

So what’s new? According to two separate sources, I’ve heard that Ewan McGregor has actually put pen to paper and inked a contract to return as the iconic Jedi Master. I heard word of this recently, but I was sitting on it until, out of the blue, a second source reached out to me (I hadn’t gone digging on this one) saying the exact same thing.

Again, this shouldn’t come as a surprise considering how open McGregor has been in his desire to return to the S…

 Out of Four

Alvin Schwartz' iconic Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark books have adapted for the big screen, with no less a name than Oscar Winner Guillermo del Toro behind it (co-writing the the screen story and producing the film.). It's a film that has been met with a lot of anticipation, but does it deliver the goods? The answer (if your expectations were reasonable) is yes.

It's the fall of 1968 in America, and the story is built around the two spookiest days of the year: Halloween and Election Day. In the the small town of Mill Valley, the shadow of the Bellows family has loomed large for generations. It is in their mansion on the edge of town that Sarah, a young girl with horrible secrets, turned her tortured life into a series of scary stori…
