These Han and Leia Bookends Are Perfect For Your 'Making Of' Rinzler Books

In less than three months ' Solo: A Star Wars Story' will hit the cinema screens and I suspect Han is going to be hot property all over the world once more.  But, for the majority of us long term Star Wars fans, he's been our favourite space smuggling pirate for decades.   Ever since 1977, I've been a fan of Han Solo and when it was playtime in the school playground way back in the latter years of the 1970's it was the captain of the Falcon every kid including myself wanted to pretend to be, not Luke Skywalker.  He was super cool with his trusty blaster by his side and a loyal Wookiee towering over him, always there to assist in his latest adventure.  What's not to like? Imagine my delight when I got my hands on these incredible bookends featuring not only Han Solo but Princess Leia too.  That famous scene in The Empire Strikes Back when just before Han is lowered into the Carbon-freezing chamber Leia leans forward and says "I love you."  To whic

New Ready Player One Promo Comes With Real Prizes

There's a new Ready Player One promo with a few extra juicy bits of footage.  But the best bit of the new promo is it brings with it a new competition.  Just like in the story by Ernest Cline, the studio is inviting you to 'join the leaderboard.' By signing up on their dedicated website you can score points by tweeting posters and trailers for the movie.  The more you tweet the more points you get and the further up the leaderboard you go.  The prizes are pretty good too: Copper Key: Atom Tickets – Enjoy movies on the big screen for free until 2045. Jade Key: Spotify – Win codes for 27 years’ worth of Spotify Premium. Crystal Key: Lyft – Let Lyft take you where you need to go until 2045. You can enter each day to increase your chances of moving up the leaderboard and gaining one of the keys.  The contest ends on March 12th with the winners being announced in three stages: March 19th for the Copper Key winner, March 21st for the Jade Key winner, and March 26th

AVATAR REVEALED AS THE ULTIMATE BLOCKBUSTER MOVIE TO VIEW ON THE BIG SCREEN

Cineworld IMAX Film Fest gives film fans another chance to see five of the biggest films from 2017. Avatar takes top spot in top forty. Star Wars and Jurassic Park round off the top five. A study of 2,000 movie fans has revealed the top 40 films which simply have to be seen on the big screen, with over a quarter voting Avatar as the number one film that must be viewed in the cinema. Also featuring in the list were all of the Star Wars films, Jaws, Jurassic Park, Titanic, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Apollo 13 and The Hunger Games. The 1939 American historical romance, Gone with the Wind, appeared alongside Guardians of the Galaxy and Saving Private Ryan. The study was commissioned by Cineworld ahead of the third IMAX Film Festival, which will give film fans across the country a second chance to see some of the top releases from last year in IMAX. Narrowly missing the top 40 were Back to the Future and The Sound of Music. The research also looked at the

12 Interesting Tidbits From Steven Spielberg's Empire Magazine Interview

This month, Steven Spielberg takes over the quality movie magazine, Empire.   It's packed with articles covering his whole career including his latest movie, Ready Player One.  Also in the magazine is an in-depth interview with Mr Spielberg from the experienced Ian Freer.  It takes place on Stage 20 of Universal Studios just before the director had a dinner date with a certain Johnny Williams.  Here's just a few interesting tidbits from that interview. He admits Ready Player One was his third most difficult movie to shoot after Jaws and Saving Private Ryan.  Where Jaws and Saving Private Ryan were a physical challenge, Ready Player One was a technical challenge.  The director revealed he was learning new things as they were shooting. He was only getting four to five hours sleep during shooting for Ready Player One but said it was one of the most fulfilling experiences he's had. Spielberg was aware that his movies were referenced in Ernest Cline's novel bu

War of the Worlds: Spielberg's take on a science fiction classic

It's not every day we get a classic science fiction film, based on a classic story brought to life on the big screen, enhanced and imagined by one of the most talented film makers of our time. The film is War of the Worlds . The director is Steven Spielberg  and after doing years of films about happy, peaceful aliens like in Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and E.T, he got to do what he always wanted to do, a scary disaster film yet packed with unsympathetic aliens bent on the destruction of Earth. Whether these are aliens from Mars is not really something that is answered in War of the Worlds, and there's a few great questions about why they chose Earth, and why they had machines here before humanity grew to large numbers. What was their real game? Was it us? Were we to be the food and fertilisation of a new species? Before I get into that, let's look at the franchise itself. Created by noted writer of the Victorian Era: H. G. Wells, the novel was one of the times,

Movie Review: "Annihilation" May Take Some Time To Digest

ANNIHILATION Starring Natalie Portman, Jennifer Jason Leigh,  Gina Rodriguez, Tessa Thompson, Tuva Novotny  and Oscar Isaac based on the novel by Jeff VanderMeer Screenplay by Alex Garland Directed by Alex Garland Reviewed by Patrick & Paul Gibbs  Out of Four Despite the cerebral, Kubrickian, hard core science fiction feel of writer-director Alex Garland's brilliant thriller  Ex Machina , it's hard not to go into a science fiction film called Annihilation  that is marketed with images of people walking into the jungle with machine guns and not expect something more in the vein of Aliens than 2001: A Space Odyssey. Consequently, some audiences are going to be pretty unhappy with the cerebral, deep science and existential nature of this film, and that is understandable. But if you're prepared for something different and you don't mind a movie a movie being more than a little weird, there's a lot to be said for Garland's adaptation of

Solo Trailer But With "I'm Han Solo" From The Star Wars Kinect Soundtrack

Yes, you read that right.  The clever folks over at Shooptube thought it would be a good idea to mix the current Solo trailer with the now infamous song from the Kinect Star Wars game.  In the game you had a dance mini game where you could dance as Han Solo.  The music was titled "I'm Han Solo" and it's a perfect fit to the trailer. Actually it isn't but it's worth a watch for the comedy value. Rob Wainfur @thebeardedtrio The Bearded Trio - The Site For Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, John Williams and a whole lot more. MovieReview: Aardman's "Early Man" Is Funny and Charming

EARLY MAN Starring the voices of Eddie Redmayne. Tom Hiddleston,  Maisie Williams, Timothy Spall Screenplay by Mark Burton & James Higginson Story by Mark Burton and Nick Park Directed by Nick Park Reviewed by Paul & Patrick Gibbs Out of Four Despite having nowhere near the box office pull or name recognition factor of Disney/Pixar, Aardman Animation Studios is second only to that mammoth in terms of quality players in the animation game. Their latest effort, the caveman comedy Early Man, may not reach the lofty heights of their best work (the delightful and criminally under seen Arthur Christmas , for example), but it's funny, charming, inventive and touching. Academy Award winner Eddie Redmayne stars as the voice of Dug, a likely goofy stone age member of a tribe of rabbit hunters. Dug dreams of bigger things, like hunting mammoths, but Chief Bobnar (voiced by the incomparable Timothy Spall) tells him they just aren't meant for that. Dug also fi
