Sound Designers Of Star Wars Use Scream That May Be George Lucas

"The George" Replaces The Wilhelm Scream In an interview with Good Morning America , sound designers for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, David Acord and Matt Wood revealed that there is a scream in The Last Jedi and other recent Star Wars movies that is referred to as "The George."  Speculation is that this is actually George Lucas and the designers refused to deny or confirm this rumour: “The Rise of Skywalker”, sources tell ABC News, also contains a deep audio Easter egg: a scream that is actually the voice of "Star Wars" creator George Lucas. The clip, affectionately called “The George”, was originally recorded for the director’s 1973 film “American Graffiti." It has appeared in several movies, including “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” and “The Last Jedi”. Acord and Wood acknowledge they did use a special scream in “The Rise of Skywalker”, but won’t say where it appears. They won’t even confirm that it’s Lucas. “We’ve got a calling card,...

Memo From 1984 Shows Creative Process For Atari Game - Gremlins

Internal Memo Shows How Gremlins For Atari Was Based On Guessing If you loved video games in the eighties such as I did then you will know the often disappointment that would accompany a movie tie-in.  There are a few rare examples such as Batman for the Sinclair Spectrum 48K and the awesome Star Wars Arcade.  But, generally they stunk of a quick cash-in (E.T. anyone?) with poor graphics and even worse, actually having nothing to do with the movie itself. Admittedly one of the main reasons for the game not resembling the movie was generally down to the restrictions of the hardware at the time such as the memory size.  Try fitting an Indiana Jones adventure into a few kilobytes!  Well, they did try.  However, there is another reason why the game would be completely off on a tangent and that is due to the game being developed before the actual movie came out and often, a ridiculous deadline.  This was a familiar practise with the developers, programme...

‘Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Symphonic Suite’ Earns John Williams 25th Grammy

25th Grammy For John Williams Serious question.  What does John Williams do with all his awards?  Does he have a dedicated room for all the Oscars, Grammys and other numerous awards?  Or does he store them away in storage?  Well whatever he does, he has to add another one to the collection.  Another Grammy to be specific which makes it 25 for the composer.  He won the award for the ‘Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Symphonic Suite’ which apparently he penned after being inspired by a Disneyland theme park attraction.  That must have been some inspiration! The Grammys were the 62nd incarnation and it was 58 years ago that John Williams received his first nomination. You can listen to the five minute suite below which was recorded at Abbey Road, London with the London Symphony Orchestra.  The piece was a collaboration with composer William Ross who said: “We wanted to enhance the immersive theatre quality of the land with a new compositi...

Watching Star Wars In VR Made Me Feel Like A Kid Again

Movies In VR Are A Thing Of Beauty Recently, I decided to enter the Oasis and bought myself an Oculus Go .  If you're not familiar with what this is, it's basically an inexpensive introduction to the world of VR (Virtual Reality.)  It's a standalone device without the needs for cables that, although doesn't track your body movement does track your head movement giving the full VR experience.  It cost me £149 from Amazon (this is not a sponsored post) and I was eager to get my first taster of home VR.  Spoiler: I was not disappointed! The model I bought was the 32gb version, enough to see me install the apps I needed and copy across a few movies from my collection.  This process is simple.  Using the standard micro USB cable that is supplied, just plug it into your PC and copy your files across.  Since I had a few Star Wars movies this was my first choice. Next, I downloaded an app from the Oculus store called Skybox  which reads files in...
