Watching Skies: Star Wars, Spielberg and Us Is Now Available To Buy

Watching Skies: Star Wars, Spielberg and Us.  A loving ode to a VHS galaxy not that far, far away As Solo, Ready Player One and Stranger Things prove the retro might of VHS era cinema, Watching Skies – Star Wars, Spielberg and Us is a universal and affectionate tale about the pop cultural remembrances stuck in all our R2 unit’s memory systems. Like many a British kid in an ‘80s world of VCRs, Reagan and Atari, Mark O’Connell wanted to be one of the kids on the Star Wars toy commercials. Jaws, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, E.T. The Extra Terrestrial, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Superman and Star Wars weren’t just changing cinema – they were making lasting highways into our childhoods, toy boxes and video stores like never before. In this energetic and insightful memoir-through-cinema, Mark O’Connell flies a gilded X-Wing through a universe of bedroom remakes of Return of the Jedi, close encounters with Christopher Reeve, sticker album swaps, a honeymoon on A...

Movie Review: Aptly Titled "Adrift" Floats Aimlessly

ADRIFT Starring Shailene Woodley, Sam Claflin, Jeffrey Thomas, Elizabeth Hawthorne Red Sky at Mourning: A True Story of Love, Loss, and Survival at Sea by Tami Oldham Ashcraft and Susea McGearhart Screenplay by Aaron Kandell, Jordan Kandell and David Branson Smith Directed by Baltasar Kormákur Reviewed by Patrick & Paul Gibbs  Out of Four We are definitely reaching the point in the summer where something more real world based and less dependant on CGI would be a welcome change. A strong performance piece with engaging characters would be just the ticket. That fact makes Adrift all the more disappointing. The film is based on the true story of two avid sailors, Tami Oldham and Richard Sharp, who set out on a journey across the ocean in 1983 and sailed directly into a hurricane. The movie uses an unconventional story structure, starting with Tami (Shailene Woodley) and Richard (Sam Claflin) already adrift after the accident, and cuts back and forth ...

Be the director and take advice from Steven Spielberg in the classic PC game, Director's Chair Who remembers that Steven Spielberg project with Jennifer Aniston, Quentin Tarantino, Katherine Helmond and Penn and Teller? It was a CD-ROM interactive game for PC and Mac called Steven Spielberg's Director's Chair. You chose the cast, the script and the camera angles. It was released in 1996 and Spielberg appeared throughout the game guiding you and giving you tips. Hollywood professionals such as editor Michael Kahn, special effects supervisor Michael Lantieri, and cinematographer Dean Cundey were also in the game to give you advice. You started with a small budget and a personal assistant who guided you along the way. Spielberg gave you a pep talk before you're left to work on your first feature. Ted and Terry (or Terry and Ted) offered you useful suggestions on changing your script. Delays were inevitable and cost you money but before you knew it you wer...

Fans and Friends Share Their Jaws Memories

Back in 2015 we published an article where fans of Jaws which was celebrating 40 years that year shared their memories of the classic shark movie. Mega Jaws collector, Jim Beller, writer, Bryan Young and super Jaws fan, Joe Fortunato were just some of the memories we shared. We just had to publish the article again. To celebrate Steven Spielberg's Jaws turning 40 we asked fans of the movie what their memories are of the classic shark movie that hit cinema screens across America on June 20th 1975. Whenever someone asks me that dreaded question, "what is your favourite movie?" I always have to explain that it's like asking what your favourite food is. It really depends on your mood at the time. Saying that, there are always three movies that come to mind. Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Raiders of the Lost Ark and of course Jaws. For me Jaws is an example of a perfect movie. It never ages it just gets finer as the years wave by. Jaws is another exa...

Jaws: Resurface Is A New Fan Made Trailer That Actually Looks Pretty Good

JAWS: RESURFACE Trailer Is A Must Watch Clever Youtuber, Tommy Ross has put together a rather convincing fan trailer for a new Jaws movie.  It's called JAWS: RESURFACE and to be honest, I would watch it.  It would star Richard Dreyfuss so that's okay in my books and it kind of looks fun.  Of course, it's not real, which is a shame but should there be more Jaws movies?  Before you answer with a "hell, no" let me share Tommy's thoughts and he does come up with some valid points.  You can watch the fan trailer for Jaws: Resurface at the end of this article.  Please do let us know your thoughts on the trailer and whether you would like to see another Jaws movie Despite what some people say, this really needs to happen for a number of reasons. First of all, I believe it's important to keep beloved, iconic properties alive, relevant and thriving. We should celebrate certain films in big ways and always allow new audiences to discover these films. Jaws sho...
