John Williams to be honoured at BMI Film, TV and Visual Media Awards John Williams is going to be honoured by the Broadcast Music Inc at their 34th annual Film, TV and Visual Media Awards which is set to take place at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in the luxurious Beverly Hills on May 9th. Ready Player One Hits The Half A Billion Mark It's safe to say Steven Spielberg's Ready Player One is a box office success.  It's now taken over $500 million at the worldwide box office.  The movie based on the excellent novel by Ernest Cline enjoyed a particularly strong showing at the Chinese box office with $61 million alone.  The domestic run (U.S) brought in a whopping $120 million so retro is definitely the in thing across the U.S.A.  The budget for Ready Player One is rumoured to be around the $175 million mark so not a bad return for Warner Bros. The numbers for Ready Player One are set to increase even further with Japan pulling the short straw and having to wait until only last week to get the cinema release arriving at their cinemas. Last week we reported Steven Spielberg being the first ever director to reach $10 billion for the collective box office takings of all his movies over the decades.  Ready Player One has contributed handsomely to that figure.

Reviewed by Patrick & Paul Gibbs  Out of Four It's already a big year for us for for sheepish guilty pleasure, with Tomb Raider and Pacific Rim: Uprising, and now, the one and only video game that really holds a special (even sacred) place in our hearts is adapted into a big budget film. When we were teens in the 'early 90's, hanging out at the arcade at the mall playing Rampage was a favorite pastime. The thing we loved most about it was that it was done from the monster's point of view. It's a lot more fun to smash building and eat people than it is to shoot at creatures. The movie faced a big obstacle on this level: Rampage was never about the humans, and nobody wants to root against George, Ralph and Lizzie.
