Hear Alan Silvestri's "Ready Player One" Theme

One break from tradition in Steven Spielberg's eagerly awaited Ready Player One is that the musical score is not composed by his longtime collaborator, legendary composer John Williams. Since the 86-years old Williams was busy with  Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Spielberg's The Post , Alan Silvestri (favorite composer of Spielberg associate Robert Zemeckis) has stepped in. This is the second time in recent years Spielberg has worked with a different composer, following Thomas Newman's Oscar nominated score for Bridge of Spies. Silvestri's main title theme can now be heard  here , and fans won't be disappointed. Like Newman's work on Bridge of Spies it has a fascinating quality of sounding distinctly like this composer's work, but with a touch of John Williams and, more importantly, every bit like the score to a Spielberg film. I can't wait to hear the rest of it. This is going to be an amazing year for Silvestri, between this score and his upcoming sc...

Movie Review: Alicia Vikander Shines in "Tomb Raider"

Reviewed by Paul & Patrick Gibbs   Out of Four Images Courtesy Paramount Pictures and  Mutual Film company 2001's  Lara Croft: Tomb Raider  was not a good film. We know this. But for a couple of obsessive, young and very single Indiana Jones freaks like us, a tough female version of the adventurous acheologist who came with a sultry British accent and her own set of runaway boulders was irresistable. Angelina Jolie became one of our most significant celebrity crushes of all time, and we saw the flm more times than we care to admit, but we make no apologies or excuses. We all have our guilty pleasures, and we don't judge you for yours, even if it is Gerard Butler (ok, maybe a little.).  The new reboot  follows Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft, daughter of an eccentric and extremely wealthy adventurer who vanished when she was just a pre-teen. Now a young woman of 21 without any real focus or purpose, Lara navigates the streets of East Lond...

There's Now A Version Of 'Luke And Leia's' Theme With Lyrics

Luke and Leia's theme from Return of the Jedi, I must admit is one of my all time favourite pieces from the master, John Williams.  I love the soft relaxing piece and as previously mentioned on this site, is one of those pieces that evokes memories of an eleven year old me playing with my Kenner Star Wars toys and listening to the soundtrack on my record player.  Well, we have a new version thanks to those talented lot over at " Break out the Crazy. "   They contacted The Bearded Trio and told us they've just written lyrics for Luke and Leia's theme and would I like to hear it?  Absolutely I would.  I was already to scoff at this classic piece being messed with, but you know what?  It's pretty good!  Their voices are exceptional and the lyrics they've written go perfectly with the classic track.  It's how I imagine a Broadway musical of Star Wars would sound. Chris Hierro and his girlfriend, Katya are professional musicians and I had to...

Hidden Feature Allows You To Watch Music Only Version Of The Last Jedi

Do you like the soundtrack to The Last Jedi?  Ever wished you could watch the movie without all the dialogue and still enjoy the magic of John Williams?  Well now you can.  Rian Johnson revealed the extra feature: The Last Jedi’s out today in the states for digital download, blu in two weeks. Of all the special features, my favorite one is kinda hidden, so wanted to call it out. If you buy the movie anywhere online (or the blu) you have access to a music only version of TLJ. — Rian Johnson (@rianjohnson) March 13, 2018 To access the feature you have to activate your digital copy of The Last Jedi and link it with some app called "Movies Anywhere."  Apparently this app consolidates all your digital purchases into one convenient app (apparently) and then once you do this you will have access to the unique feature.  Only heard of this working with the US purchases of the movie at this time. “Kinda a pain I know, but I think it’s worth it to ...

Spring And Summer 2018: 15 Movies I Can't Wait To See

By Patrick Gibbs The winter season is ending at last, and as the sun comes out and casts a warm glow over nature, thoughts turn to outdoor fun. Unless you're a film critic and know full well that you're going to be spending a huge chunk of the coming months in a darkened cinema. If I couldn't find 12 movies that I was excited to see, I'd be in the wrong line of work, but what makes me different from the average movie goer is 1. I get to see all of them, and 2. I have to see all of them. If every one of the films on the list is completely satisfying and worth spending your hard earned money on, that will be pretty extraoridnairy, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed that at least half of them live up to their potential, but (assuming my opinion means anything at all), you can visit us here to find out before you  spend too much on those tickets. 1. READY PLAYER ONE As a writer for a for this site, it's a no brainer that I'm going to choose Ready Playe...

Jeff Goldblum returns as Dr. Ian Malcolm in Jurassic World Evolution!

Jeff Goldblum is to star in the new Jurassic Park game from Frontier.  Jurassic World Evolution sees you in charge of your own Dino-park and you get to build it, manage it and mess it up if you wish.  If you're familiar with Frontier then you will know they are a talented lot who brought us Elite Dangerous and Planet Coaster, both of which I own and can tell you are exceptional games. Jeff has also given the new Jurassic Park game "ten Goldblums out of ten Goldblums" so what more do I need to say?  Obviously he will return as his character, Dr Ian Malcolm.  Big question is, will we get that laugh? It's coming to PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One in Summer 2018 I wonder if he will tell us all to turn off the game and go outside like he did when he appeared in the 1997 Playstation game, The Lost World: Jurassic Park? Henry Thomas Talks About His Welsh Roots

E.T. star, Henry Thomas who played Elliott in the 1982 Steven Spielberg classic has appeared on BBC Radio Wales to talk about his Welsh roots. "We were always told that we were Welsh. We just didn't know from where," he told BBC Radio Wales' Good Evening Wales programme. "In 2009 I sent off for a kit and I did a DNA test and I connected with a few people that I was related to and I found out a lot more information through them because my family had been in America for quite some time," he said. "My dad's family comes from the north and my mother's family comes from somewhere around Carmarthenshire." "Whenever I have an opportunity I catch a train and go to Wales and hire a car and drive around," he said. A Personal Message - Rob Wainfur

So where do I begin?  This is difficult so here goes.  Okay, for some time now I've been thinking of walking away from the whole blogging and fandom universe.  It's been on my mind for at least a year, probably two.  The reason?  Well, I suppose it's easy to blame the current state of the various fandoms or social justice warriors but that's not the case.  It's me. I want to be a fan again.  For some time now I've lacked the enthusiasm I used to have for a new film, TV show or video game.  I see other fans and bloggers who are hyped for the latest Star Wars or Jurassic World movie but me?  I seem to be able to take it or leave it.  I've enjoyed running the website and posting for imminent movie releases and re-releases but it does seem these days I'm going through the motions and just writing what studios want them to post and when convenient.  Studios will contact me and ask me to post an "exciting" press release where they ...

Ready Player One Is Looking At $38m to $55m Opening Weekend.

Ready Player One is set to open with ticket sales between $38 million and $55 million over its four day opening weekend.  That's according to various tracking services.  That would be a little disappointing for Warner Bros. who are looking at a strong opening weekend, especially after the massive promotional campaign that is currently hitting TVs, magazines, tours and the web. If those numbers are to be believed then it would be Steven Spielberg's biggest debut since Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull way back in 2008.  That movie took a whisker over $100 million on its opening weekend. Warner Bros. are looking to entice a wider audience with the latest data showing that the majority of interest for Ready Player One is mainly the male moviegoer. “There’s still time to build buzz,” Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst at comScore, told Variety. “Three weeks is an eternity to build an audience. In three weeks, we could be looking at a whole diffe...

This series will allow Jon the chance to work with a diverse group of writers and directors and give Lucasfilm the opportunity to build a robust talent base.” You may remember Jon from being the director for The Jungle Book or Iron Man 1 and 2.  Also he is well known with fans of the 90's sit-com, Friends as he played Pete Becker.  You know t...

We're getting really excited here at The Bearded Trio.  It's only a matter of weeks until Ready Player One hits the big screen.  March 29th is the big day and to celebrate we're giving away not one but two books.  Of course it's Ready Player One we're giving away, the epic novel which Steven Spielberg has graced his directing magic on.  The second book is another classic by Ernest Cline and it's called Armada.  I',m currently three quarters through this one and loving every page.  If you like The Last Starfighter and your classic sci-fi references then you will love Armada. To be in with a chance of winning the two books all you have to do is answer the following question: "Greetings, Professor Falken." is a quote from which film? A - The Last Starfighter B - WarGames C - WestWorld All you have to do is answer the question above and post your answer either in the comments or on our Facebook page or Twitter page . Movie Review: "A Wrinkle in Time" Is As Hit And Miss As The Source Material

A WRINKLE IN TIME Starring Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon,  Mindy Kaling, Storm Reid, Zach Galifinakis  and Chris Pine Based on the novel by Madeline L'Engle Screenplay by Jennifer Lee Directed by Ava  DuVernay Reviewed by Patrick Gibbs   Out of Four If you saw the bit on the Academy Awards where Jimmy Kimmel and Wonder Woman talked about the theater where people were gathered to watch a special screening of  A Wrinkle in Time , you know that they were complaining that the theater smelled like marijuana. That didn't surprise me, as Madeline L'Engle's 1962 Newbury Medal winner is essentially a Pink Floyd album for kids without the music. Some have called the book unfilmable, though this is not the first time it's been tried, the most recent being a cheap television version in 2004. Storm Reid as Meg.
