Video: Pranksters Scare Shoppers With Killer Shark In FishMongers To Promote Sharknado 2: The Second One @SyfyUK

It's not Jaws by a long shot but Skarnado 2:  The Second One is not designed to be taken seriously.  It seems the promoters think the same too as they took to scaring shoppers of London with a movie killer shark hidden in a fishmongers. A terrifying attack by a killer shark shattered the peace at a quiet North London fishmonger after one bloodthirsty beast was let loose amid the catch of the day. Razor-sharp teeth… glassy dead eyes… and an immense cavernous mouth… But fortunately for the shoppers and staff at the fishmongers, this wasn’t a real shark – but a stunt dreamed up by special effects producers at  Syfy  to celebrate the release of  Sharknado 2: The Second One. A team of four artists and animatronic wizards spent two weeks creating the lifelike animatronic shark and embedded it on a fish counter along with sides of salmon and fillets of haddock. Shoppers at Steve Hatt in Islington who were looking to top up on their Omega 3 got the shock of their

A Round-Up of Recent 'Doctor Who' Interviews; Series 8 Premiere will be Broadcast to Theaters Worldwide - **UPDATED**

The latest issue of Entertainment Weekly features Doctor Who on its cover, and well as an interview with the new Doctor himself, Peter Capaldi. Of the new Doctor, Capaldi says we can expect him to be “more alien than we’ve seen him for a while.  He is less patient with the foibles of human beings.” In a recent interview with The Sunday Times, Capaldi was asked about his relationship with Clara: “There’ll be no flirting, that’s for sure.  It’s not what this Doctor is concerned with.  It’s quite a fun relationship but I did call and say, ‘I want no Papa-Nicole moments.’  There was a bit of tension with that at first, but I was absolutely adamant.” He also comments on the Doctor’s new costume, as compared to the previous Doctor [played by Matt Smith]: “I think it’s quite a hard look.  I always wanted him to be in black - I just always saw The Doctor in dark colors.  Not tweed.  Matt’s a really young cool guy - he can wear anything, but I wanted to strip it bac

Simon Pegg Confirms He's Not In Star Wars VII. Or Does He?

Recent rumours of Simon Pegg being on board for Star Wars VII and a slip of the tongue at SDCC by Benedict Cumberbatch indicating that the Paul and Star Trek Into Darkness star was in yet another JJ Abrams movie have been quashed somewhat by Pegg himself.  Talking with Vulture.com he says: "Well, J.J. uses me in different roles, and we’re good friends. I feel like my face in Star Wars would pop people out of the movie. Look, I love Star Wars, and I don’t want people to watch and go, Oh, there’s Simon Pegg’s face. The film is cleverly cast with these amazing, unknown actors. (emphasis Vulture's)" So, you’re not in the movie? [Smiles.] Of course I visited the set. It’s amazing, and I love Star Wars. I want to see everything happening. It looks wonderful, and you need to believe those characters. Any type of stunt casting might just pop you out of the movie.  Hmmm.  You could read between the lines here and think he may actually be in make up.  Stay tuned. Rob

"You Are Welcome", composer John Williams' first film score. Watch the video.

"In March 1952 [John Williams] was reassigned to the 596th AF Band, Pepperrell Air Force Base, St. John's, Newfoundland. During his stay at Pepperrell he was able to put his training to use with special arrangements penned for the 596th Dance band and Newfoundland folk songs re-arranged for the concert band sparking the many appearances of the Pepperrell Band. His greatest accomplishment during this period was the composing, arranging, directing and playing of a 22 minute film background score for a Newfoundland travelogue entitled "You Are Welcome." The success of this accomplishment was reflected in the film being selected as "one of the outstanding travelogues for 1954" during a premier showing in New York City. The score was unique in that it utilized themes from Newfoundland folk songs for local color. In addition, the fact that the recording ensemble, composed of members of the 596th AF Band, was limited to 12 pieces and lacked the ever present &q

Obsidian Staff Talk Constantly About Knights Of The Old Republic 3.

Oh please let this happen!  It seems the talented staff at Obsidian who develop the Star Wars MMO, The Old Republic are craving Knights of the Old Republic 3.  In an interview with IGN , game designer Josh Sawyer revealed:  “I think there are a lot of the people at the studio that would like to do Knights of the Old Republic 3.  think at that time LucasArts was really focused on what they considered to be extreme, extreme blockbusters and even though the Knights of the Old Republic series was pretty successful, it just never seemed like something that was going to happen at that time. Having said that, a lot of time has passed. I know there are a lot of people at the studio who are really interested in doing a project like that.” Producer Brandon Adler also stated interest in developing the sequel, saying: “It’s something that comes up every three to six months. We bring it up and talk about it. Not anything terribly serious, but we just say ‘wouldn’t it be cool if?’ and just

Mark Hamill Sporting A Contractually-obligated Beard. Talks Star Wars VII

Mark Hamill was spotted at the premiere of the new Marvel movie, Guardians of the Galaxy sporting a rather bushy beard.  Hamill explained he has had to grow the beard for Star Wars VII. The BBC asked Hamill  if it was “great being reunited with Han and Leia” for Episode VII. “Fantastic,” he replied. “Again, I thought even if they did a third trilogy, we wouldn’t be involved. Because it’s really about the new generation of characters. We’re just there to lend our support, and grow contractually-obligated beards.” Hamill was also asked about the progress of Episode VII and the overall feel of the movie: “It really has the spirit of that whole universe...In other words, the characters are so relatable. I think that’s the most important thing. Because no matter what kind of special effects you have the audience has to identify with each of the characters. They’ve done a great job – JJ [Abrams] and Lawrence Kasdan – in writing a script where you immediately understand who these p

Ron Gilbert Posts His Original Pitch Documents For Maniac Mansion

Ron Gilbert the genius behind Maniac Mansion has posted his original pitch documents on his official blog, Grumpy Gamer .  Here's a sample of those documents but head over to his page to see more and and read how there was no official pitch process at Lucasfilm Games back in the day.  A simpler time. Here is the original pitch document Gary and I used for Maniac Mansion. Gary had done some quick concepts, but we didn't have a real design, screen shots or any code. This was before I realized coding the whole game in 6502 was nuts and began working on the SCUMM system. There was no official pitch process or "green lighting" at Lucasfilm Games. The main purpose of this document would have been to pass around to the other members of the games group and get feedback and build excitement. VIDEO: George Lucas on 'Labyrinth' and Working with Jim Henson

Back in the mid-1980's, George Lucas was the executive producer on a the fantasy adventure classic Labyrinth .  While not a huge success at the time, the film has achieved cult status over the years - and it stands as a testament to the everlasting genius of Jim Henson and his Creature Shop .  It also introduced a generation of impressionable teenage girls, such as myself, to David Bowie.  We are forever grateful.  In the video below - which was released as part of the Labyrinth electronic press kit - Lucas discusses how his collaboration with Jim Henson on The Empire Strikes Back came about, and how Yoda was an experiment for both filmmakers.  He also talks a bit about the casting of David Bowie in the role of the Jareth the Goblin King, and about which Labyrinth character is his favorite.
