A Look Back At Titan A.E.

The first time I saw Titan A.E. I was blown away, I didn't know anything about at the time but the electric blue DVD case screamed at me from the shelf and I had to buy it. The film is set in deep space after the destruction of Earth (A.E. -After Earth) by a race made from pure energy called the Drej. A band of humans race against the Drej to find the Titan; humanity's last hope to avoid extinction. Unfortunately the film cost so much to make it was always going to struggle to recoup costs with the likes of Matt Damon, Bill Pullman and Drew Barrymore heading up a star studded cast its clear that no expense was spared in production although I fear some was in the marketing side of things. As nobody (even to this day) seems to know who the target audience is, some seeing it as a kids film that adults may like and others seeing it as a cartoon for adults but in reality its somewhere in between much like the recent Clone Wars series is. Titan A.E. failed to make even half ...

Artist Draws Impressive Star Wars Artwork From Memory

This impressive piece of artwork is from Star Wars fan John Hendrix .  The illustration is done completely from memory.  The artist was quoted as saying: “I can never repay George Lucas for what Star Wars gave me. Star Wars is so close to my heart, I honestly couldn’t decide what image to make for this show, it was just all too important. So I just decided to draw everything… from memory.”

WHOLOCK - Sherlock meets The Doctor! (One Of The Best Fan Made Videos Ever!)

What could possibly be one of the best fan made crossovers I've ever seen, Sherlock meets his next client - The Doctor!  While watching the video I actually thought the BBC had put together a teaser crossover for us, its that realistic!  Created by J ohn Smith , this guy has a huge talent.  He writes about the video: "Months after an encounter with a mysterious 'Doctor', Sherlock becomes obsessed with discovering more about this impossible man... until the man makes an unexpected return." Watch the VFX Breakdown here:  http://youtu.be/1Zrn37KzxuE In anticipation of both the Doctor Who Christmas Special and the Third Series of Sherlock, I created a small crossover story. Though it may not be perfect, I'm still pretty happy with the results. THE BEARDED TRIO ON FACEBOOK THE BEARDED TRIO ON TWITTER THE BEARDED TRIO ON GOOGLE+

Disney Stores Getting Ready For Star Wars Merchandise In The New Year

I popped in to my local Disney store here in the UK on the weekend and asked the staff when us Star Wars fans are likely to see Star Wars merchandise occupying space within the store.  The response was a definite "in the new year." That's good news.  The member of staff went on to say that they are focusing heavily on Marvel for the Christmas but will be making space next year for The Wars. Indiana Jones 5 Is Still At Least Two To Three Years Away. "We Need A Story."

Variety had a chance to speak to Disney's chairman Alan Horn last week and after we all heard the news that Disney have completed their ownership of the Indiana Jones franchise the chairman had to bring us down to earth like a bi-plane being flown by the Jones'.  He confirmed that it will be at least two to three years before we see another Indiana Jones movie. Horn confirmed that Disney has not yet made any forward motion in developing an Indy 5, and that the key thing they are waiting for is just an idea. “We don’t have a story," Horn said. "We need a story."  Read more at  http://www.cinemablend.com/new/Indiana-Jones-5-Still-Least-Two-Three-Years-Away-40694.html THE BEARDED TRIO ON FACEBOOK THE BEARDED TRIO ON TWITTER THE BEARDED TRIO ON GOOGLE+

Quick Review: Gravity Starring Sandra Bullock

Gravity directed by Alfonso Cuarón stars Sandra Bullock and George Clooney in an action packed, heart pounding space thriller that, unlike the gravity that is absent from most of the movie will pull you in and not let you go until the end. On a routine space walk, disaster strikes as the shuttle is destroyed by a Russian debris field causing all kinds of space mayhem and leaving Dr Ryan Stone stranded in space spiralling out of control.  What entails is a thrill a minute space ride that will keep you enthralled until the end as you really want to know if our hero will ever get back to Earth.   The movie has a minimalistic look which makes you focus on the predicament our hero is in.  You will find yourself holding your breath along with Dr Stone which is the sign of a good movie.  Bullock's performance is worth mentioning as she really delivers in the acting department.  Believable and never over the top.   The soundtrack by British compos...

Steven Spielberg, The Star Wars Arcade Machine And The Missing Force Button.

Steven Spielberg as you probably already know is a bit of a gamer and it was only natural when the director was doing one of his regular visits to Lucasfilm in the early 80's that he set his sites on the Star Wars arcade machine that just happened to be taking residence. Little did Spielberg know that the machine that was at Lucasfilm was being used and studied by Peter Langston (Ball Blazer and Rescue on Fractalus!) who was there for Lucasfilm Games (later to be Lucasarts.)   Lucasfilm actually had little involvement in the Atari arcade machine but the machine was shipped to Lucasfilm for reference and for Langston to study.  After studying the manual he discovered a switch that would convert the game into debug mode and allow all sorts of options to be applied.  One in particular was the option to freeze the game and using the fire button you could advance the scene one frame at a time and still move the cursor on screen and blast away those Tie-fighters ...

Frank Marshall Starts Tweeting About Indiana Jones. New Office And Old Pics.

Frank Marshall, the producer for Raiders of the Lost Ark and Temple of Doom has tweeted that he has already changed his office due to the Disney takeover.  What's intriguing is he quoted he is sitting in the "Indiana Jones" office.  Now have Disney told him to get in their and do Indy stuff, don't come out until we have something Indy V related.  (I'm just hoping - Rob.) He also tweeted the photo above saying "My fave photo, where it all started on Indy" so Indy is definitely on his mind. Here's the tweet about his office: A bit strange sitting in the Indiana Jones office in the Lucasfilm office on the Disney lot, but I'm sure I'll get used to it. — Frank Marshall (@LeDoctor) December 10, 2013 Rob @welshslider THE BEARDED TRIO ON FACEBOOK THE BEARDED TRIO ON TWITTER THE BEARDED TRIO ON GOOGLE+

X Marks The Spot As Disney Buy Indiana Jones Rights

Walt Disney have done a Star Wars and bought the marketing and distribution rights for Indiana Jones off Paramount.  Paramount will still control distribution of the first four movies, which combined made about $1.95 billion in ticket sales worldwide, not adjusting for inflation.  Paramount will also collect a fee of an undisclosed amount from any future "Indiana Jones" films that get made and released.  The deal took place on Friday. It's obvious that the Indy 5 rumours will start, in fact they already have but Disney declined to comment on the future of the franchise. It also declined to say how much money it paid for the rights. We'll keep you up to date. Rob @welshslider THE BEARDED TRIO ON FACEBOOK THE BEARDED TRIO ON TWITTER THE BEARDED TRIO ON GOOGLE+

VIDEO: Dennis Muren Interview: The Return of the Jedi Effects Challenge

From the official Star Wars Youtube channel. In this featurette from Lucasfilm, legend Dennis Muren of Industrial Light & Magic discusses creating the visual effects of Return of the Jedi. Muren says that the production schedule was tighter on Return of the Jedi and that it also had the most effects compared with the first two films in the series, as it was the most action oriented. While there was no mandate to make Return of the Jedi include faster starships or action, "it just came out that way." Muren is proud of the work in the film, saying that "we got a lot better," and that the effects were more refined than in previous efforts. ILM no longer had to "fight the technology," and could concentrate on creating stunning imagery. THE BEARDED TRIO ON FACEBOOK THE BEARDED TRIO ON TWITTER THE BEARDED TRIO ON GOOGLE+

VIDEO: Star Wars Rebels: Meet Greg Weisman, Executive Producer

From the official Star Wars Youtube channel Greg Weisman, executive producer of Star Wars Rebels, chats with StarWars.com about Lucasfilm's upcoming animated series, his career journey, and more. Star Wars Rebels leans towards Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope in terms of tone, Weisman explains, and shows the early days of the Rebellion. When the series begins, the Rebellion is not yet organized, and the series will show how the Alliance forms over the course of seasons. "That is tremendously exciting," he says. Weisman says he is a longtime geek, having read comics from a young age and getting his start as an editorial assistant at DC Comics. He worked his way up to associate editor and then transitioned into animation, eventually creating the Gargoyles cartoon for Walt Disney Television Animation, and recently worked on Young Justice. Weisman saw Star Wars for the first time in 1977, when he was 13 years old, and loved it -- but The Empire Strikes Back stands ...
