Over 1 Million Players Still Visit Star Wars The Old Republic

The Old Republic continues to stay afloat with over 1M monthly players The Star Wars MMO from Lucasarts and Bioware still draws in over 1 million players, EA announced following the game's appearance during a press event attended by Polygon. In 2012 EA adopted the popular free-to-play model which really helped the game after a less than stellar opening.  EA's Frank Gibeau said the game has grown significantly. "Since it was induced in November, we've added more than 1.7 million new players on the free model to the service," Gibeau said at the time. "And the number of subscriptions has stabilized at just under half a million. "The really interesting thing that's happening inside the service right now is monthly average revenue for the game has more than doubled since we introduced the free-to-play option. And as we look forward, we're going to continually invest in new content for the service and for players every six weeks or so."...

Lucasfilm's Mary Franklin Takes The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

Lucasfilm's very own Mary Franklin took the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.  The Force is definitely strong with her. On the official Star Wars Youtube channel she writes: Yesterday, the 501st Legion challenged me to take the Ice Bucket Challenge to help fight Lou Gehrig’s disease. Today, I stood in our Yoda Fountain here at Lucasfilm in San Francisco and accepted that challenge! To donate to help fight ALS, go to http://www.alsa.org/ . Before getting the (very) icy water dumped on me I called out the ReedPOP team who works with us on www.starwarscelebration.com. You’ve got 24 hours, gang! Donate or Ice Yourselves! Este Meza, who works with me on the events team at Lucasfilm, says that the very best way to start a Monday is dumping ice water on your boss. Also thanks to John Harper at www.starwars.com for filming! Steven Spielberg also stepped up and took the Ice Bucket Challenge.   You can watch that video here. If Michael Bay Directed Pixar's Up

I will confess I'm not a fan of Michael Bay.  I once sat through Pearl Harbor and fell asleep only to wake up an hour later and still nothing had happened.  Anyway, lets be impartial for a minute. Every director has their unique signature style and there's no denying Michael Bay certainly stamps his style with a bang on most of his films.  His reputation of using as many explosions in a movie as possible with severe close up, in your face shots is known throughout the world.  Youtuber MrStratman7 has put together this clever video showing us what would have happened if Bay had directed the much loved and tear provoking Up from Pixar. It certainly would have been different. Impartiality over.  Bay sucks.  Armageddon anyone? Photos of the Week: Melissa Mathison on the Set of E.T. Including Her Role As A Nurse In The Movie.

We can all agree that one of the best Steven Spielberg movies is the 1982 classic, E.T. The Extra Terrestrial.  A lot of that success is thanks to the masterful screenplay written by Melissa Mathison who was nominated for an Oscar for her work.  Here are a few photos of the writer on set of E.T. including a scene where she played a nurse in the movie, ultimately deleted from the final version. We can look forward to more Mathison and Spielberg collaboration when Spielberg takes on The BFG due for release in 2016. Melissa Mathison with Kathleen Kennedy.  Oh! And Yoda. Original Unaltered Star Wars On Its Way To Blu-Ray? Excited Or Not Bothered?

For all you fans of the unaltered Star Wars films there's some good news although it's still unofficial.  Disney are going to release the unaltered versions of the original Star Wars movies. The goal is to release A New Hope, Empire Strikes Back, and Return of Jedi in their complete, unaltered, original form without the redone special edition SFX. Our sources did not have an exact date as to when the original cut of the Star Wars Trilogy would be released on Blu-ray, due to the challenges Disney has encountered in pulling everything together.
