I was listening to the expanded edition of Star Wars The Phantom Menace the other day and came across what I think is a tip of the hat to Battlestar Galactica. There is a small part on the track entitled "Anakin Is Free" and about 1m30 seconds in you hear a small part of the signature tune from the 70's sci-fi tv series Battlestar. Maybe its me but there is a definite similarity to the two.
There are ties between the two franchise. Battlestar came about thanks to the popularity of Star Wars in 1977 and there is a link too with Ralph Mcquarrie who is a legend in the concept art field for both Star Wars and Battlestar. In fact Mcquarrie came up with the design for the now famous colonial Viper ship.
Anyway take a listen and tell me what you think. Is it me? Am I clutching at straws?
Listen about 1m29 seconds in for the brief part that follows.
Was John Williams tipping his baton to the TV show or is just pure coincidence? Let me know what you think.
