Spielberg's Son Debuts in Bulgarian-Tied NYC Play

Son of Steven Spielberg, Sawyer Avery, has made his theatre debut with a troupe, created by Bulgarian actor, Theodor Petlev.

Liliya Slavova, actress, director, lecturer and head of Ambassador Theater in Washington DC, writes that Spielberg has been spotted sitting on the fifth row at the 4th Street Theater, an off-Broadway venue, happily smiling after Sawyer's successful debut. The entire Spielberg family has been present at the premiere.

Bulgarian "Theo" Petelov and American girlfriend Kate Hoffman are the founders and artistic directors of The WhiteListed Theatre Company, which staged the play – Serbian Biljana Sbrljanović's Belgrade Trilogy. Petelov and Hoffman have also translated the original text for this production.

The play is directed by Joanna Nastassja Kastratovic, while the ensemble cast comprises Iva Valkova, Kate Hoffman, Jess Loudon, Samantha Slater, Vanina Kondova, Benjamin Watson, Sawyer Avery, Alexander Ristov, Luka Mijatovic, Gavin Haag and Theo P…

Incredible Spielberg Art By Fan Jim Ferguson

I was browsing the web and cam across Jim Ferguson.  A fellow Steven Spielberg fan, he has painted some amazing art work and really captures the scenes from Spielberg's movies.  They are all for sale at http://www.etsy.com/shop/Jimbeanus and he can also be found on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/Jimbeanus

Take a look at some of these fine examples.  My personal favourite?  It has to be the Poltergeist and Jaws scene.

Jurassic Park - CLEVER GIRL
Raiders Of The Lost Ark - Idol

Goonies - Hit Puree

Poltergeist - Don't Touch My Babies

Close Encounters - Contact

Jaws - Because I Need It

There are many more on his site including Star Wars, Ferris Bueller, Shawn Of The Dead, Dune, Die Hard and more.  All at realistic prices.  Most definitely worth a visit.

Digital Domain saved by Chinese And Indian Backers

Digital Domain, the once-storied visual effects house co-founded by director James Cameron, has emerged from bankruptcy with new Chinese and Indian owners vowing to expand the Los Angeles-based studio.

Digital Domain Media Group announced Sunday that it had accepted a bid from Galloping Horse America, a division of a Beijing media company, and Reliance MediaWorks, part of the Indian conglomerate Reliance Group, to buy the company's visual effects studios in Venice, Calif., and Vancouver, Canada, for $30.2 million.
The deal closed Thursday and effectively removes Digital Domain from a potentially protracted Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing by its parent company in Florida this month. That filing caused the near-shutdown of the company's new animation building in Port St. Lucie, Fla., laying off most of its 320 workers.

"We're unencumbered," said longtime Digital Domain executive Ed Ulbrich, who was recently named chief executive of Digital Domain Productions. "This …

Jurassic Park IV Update By Kathleen Kennedy No Less

Comingsoon.net were invited to a brunch to celebrate E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial's 30th anniversary. Kathleen Kennedy and Henry Thomas were present. While there the subject of Jurassic Park IV was mentioned. Kathleen Kennedy had this to say about the Dino franchise

"Writing, writing, writing.  It's really hard to keep these things going when there's an expectation and a desire by the public and the audience to keep certain franchises going. As filmmakers, we often sit there going, 'Okay. We have to answer the question, 'Why do another one?'' If you can't answer that question, you shouldn't be doing it. It's tough. We're trying to come up with a story that makes sense and isn't going to disappoint people and is, hopefully, going to get people excited and reinvigorate the franchise. We've got to start with a script and the story."

Steven Spielberg on unlocking 'tremendous mystery' of his dyslexia

Movies helped Steven Spielberg cope with his dyslexia, the director of "Jaws" and "Schindler's List" said in a rare interview about being diagnosed with the learning disability five years ago.

"It was like the last puzzle part in a tremendous mystery that I've kept to myself all these years," Spielberg, 65, told the website "Friends of Quinn."

As a child, Spielberg said he learned to read two years later than his classmates, which made him subject to teasing and caused him to dread school.

That bullying made its way into Spielberg's work as a filmmaker -- the story for the 1985 movie "The Goonies," which Spielberg executive produced, was inspired by Spielberg's own friendships with a group of fellow outcasts, he said.

"I was a member of the goon squad," Spielberg said.

Spielberg also discussed going back to college in his 50s to complete the bachelor's degree he abandoned in 1968 to pursue filmmaking, and …

Ivan Reitman Prefers A Ghostbusters Remake To Sequel

Reitman told Collider that he’d prefer to “go forward and make new things” instead of producing a Ghostbusters sequel. “I think Ghostbusters probably should be remade, if we can get it all right. We’re working on it, so we’ll see,” said Reitman. “I was literally just having this conversation with the head of a studio for lunch today, and they were concerned that we’re killing the business by remaking the same thing.”

Also, Reitman is very skeptical about the Twins sequel, Triplets, which is rumored to star Arnold Schwarzenegger, Danny DeVito and Eddie Murphy. He admits to being “quite nervous” about the prospect and notes that the project currently has no writer. “I think it’s somebody’s commercial idea, and usually that’s a scary thought,” said Retiman. “I think that was more of a press release than anything.”

Rothman to produce Spielberg's 'Robopocalypse'

ust days after announcing his departure from 20th Century Fox at the end of the year, chairman Tom Rothman is set to produce Steven Spielberg's "Robopocalypse," which is a co-production with DreamWorks.
Rothman has shepherded the project closely from the beginning, even making personal calls to reporters when Fox announced the project a year ago. Disney will distribute "Robopocalypse" domestically through its Touchstone label while Fox will handle international territories. The companies will share equally in worldwide theatrical revenues. Fox originally slated "Robopocalypse" for release July 3, 2013, but pushed the pic back a year to open day-and-date worldwide on April 25, 2014. "Robopocalypse," a sci-fi epic adapted from Daniel H. Wilson's novel by scribe Drew Goddard, centers on the fate of the human race after a robot uprising. DreamWorks acquired the rights to Wilson's unpublished manuscript in November 2009. Title was release…

Here are 13 facts or quotes you may not know  regarding E.T. The Extra Terrestrial. Spielberg never wanted to show grown-ups until the very end.  "I wanted to suggest them like in a Tom & Jerry cartoon where, when the Mom comes in you only see her from the waist down"Spielberg explains ET is more plant than anything else.  "He's not a mammal, or bird, or fish.  I think he's a vegetable."  He also mentions how they decided to make his insides when they glow to look more like a plant.Quote from Spielberg in 1981 - "ET is my response to the stalled space program.  If the government…

E.T. From Concept To Classic Book Review + Competition Win A Copy

E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial  From Concept To Classic was first released in 2002 when the movie was celebrating its 20th anniversary.  Now Newmarket Press has released a 30th Anniversary edition which will sit nicely by your copy of the Blu-ray which is out in October.
192 glossy pages and an introduction by Steven Spielberg no less.  In fact we get to hear from Spielberg, writer Melissa Mathison and the cast and crew throughout the book.  The full screenplay is included in the book, along with script notes to give you that extra insight into the movie.  For example, did you know that Henry Thomas who played Elliott ad-libbed the scene where Elliott and E.T. play with the toys?
The book is separated into three main parts.  Part one of the book is titled From concept to classic and begins with the explanation of "Night Skies", an early draft about a farm family who are terrorised by gremlin-like extra terrestrials.  Spielberg felt after reading the draft that this was a movie h…

George Lucas among CBC Foundation gala honorees

U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder was honored Saturday night at thhe Congressional Black Causcus Foundation’s Phoenix Awards, sharing the honors with a southern mayor, a fiesty congresswoman, and the man behind “Star Wars.” Both men served up passionate speeches in which the attorney general vowed to protect Americans’ right to vote, and the filmmaker decried the continued existence of racism, including in Hollywood. Filmmaker George Lucas spoke about his dogged pursuit to make “Red Tails,” a feature film with an all-black cast that told the story of the Tuskegee Airmen. Saying he was “deeply honored” by the award, Lucas said he worked on the film for 20 yeas. He said that having grown up in the 1960s, he had believed tha electing a blac president would mean society had changed, but instead, it merely “brought some things to the surface,” adding that today, racism exists in “code words.” And he said that while he initially thought the movie would appeal most to young black males, he …

Michael Bay Might Direct 'Transformers 5' After All

Though he has confirmed his return to the directing seat of "Transformers 4", Michael Bay once hinted that "T4" would be his last work in the successful autobot war film franchise. However, latest update suggested that Bay might still reprise his directing role once again as producer Steven Spielberg reportedly planned a possible fifth "Transformers" film.

The report was sparked by actor Glenn Morshower, who appeared as General Morshower in the last three "Transformers" films, when discussing the franchise at the Con X KC in Kansas City, Missouri. He revealed to Examiner that Bay and Spielberg were not only working on "Transformers 4", but more than likely "Transformers 5" as well.

"After I did the opening ceremonies for the ride [at Universal Studios Hollywood], Steven Spielberg walked up to me and chatted and said 'You know we've got you set to do the fourth one and probably the fifth one on the heels of that…

Idea For A Book - I Need Your Star Wars Memories.

I need your Star Wars memories. I have this idea and I need your help. With the fortieth anniversary quickly approaching I thought it would be a great idea to collect your memories of Star Wars fans over the decades. Whether you were there in 77 or you became a fan with Episode One I want to know. You may have worked on the movies in some way or the expanded universe. Or you may just simply remember the first Star Wars figure you bought. I want to know.

The idea is in its early stage and to be honest I don’t know whether it will become a reality. It all depends on the input. What do you think? Would you want to see a Star Wars memories book? Has one already been done? What would you like to see in the book? I’ve never done anything like this before and the idea seems a bit daunting but at the same time having a celebration of memories in time for the forty year anniversary motivates me to pursue the idea. So any input, stories or tips would be a great help.

Steve Spielberg's son drops famous last name for New York stage debut

STEVEN SPIELBERG's actor son Sawyer has dropped his dad's famous surname ahead of his New York stage debut so theatregoers won't be put off by his celebrity. Sawyer Avery Spielberg, the Jaws filmmaker's 20-year-old son with actress wife Kate Capshaw, is set to star in dark comedy Belgrade Trilogy at the 4th Street Theater in Manhattan's East Village on Friday (07Sep12), but the aspiring actor has chosen to axe his last name from the playbill in order to pave his own path in showbusiness. He tells the New York Post, "It was a very conscious decision. I wanted to tell my own story and have my own little journey and my own little adventure. Sometimes the last name can be a little bit distracting." And Sawyer insists his parents won't be offended: "No matter if I'm Sawyer Avery or Joe Schmidt or whatever my name is, my dad will always be a big part of my life. It is a big name and there will be a lot of noise around it. But as long as I stay foc…

Steven Spielberg's Lincoln To Premiere At AFI Fest

Steven Spielberg's Lincoln will be in theaters everywhere starting on November 16th, but it was only a matter of time before it was announced when and where the movie would be holding its world premiere. Today the answer has been revealed. A press release has been sent out saying that the Daniel Day-Lewis-starring biopic will be holding its premiere at Grauman's Chinese Theater in Los Angeles on November 8th as the closing night film at this year's AFI Fest. This is the second year in a row that a Spielberg title has been named as the final gala screening, as the event last year saw The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn also play before a public audience for the first time.

Starring Day-Lewis as the United States' 16th president, the film is a biopic that centers on the end of the Civil War and the presidents efforts to abolish slavery. Tony Kushner, who wrote the screenplay for Spielberg's Munich, wrote the script based in part on Doris Kearns Goodw…
