It's been rumored for the last week or so, but today it's official -- Jenna Coleman confirmed she is leaving Doctor Who. She joined the series as companion Clara Oswald -- aka The Impossible Girl -- in 2012, during Matt Smith's tenure as the Eleventh Doctor, and is currently teamed up with Twelfth Doctor Peter Capaldi. However, her time in the TARDIS has come to an end as she has filmed her final scenes. Coleman said her exit has "been in the works for a long time" and she has already been cast as the Queen in the upcoming ITV series Victoria.
On leaving the show, Coleman had this to say:
"There's not a lot of jobs where you can go to work and have a spaceship and an alien as your best mate and also run away from monsters," she joked of her decision to leave. "It's been so much fun... I love it. It's such a unique beast."
Jenna Coleman's final series begins with the premiere of Doctor Who on Saturday, September 19.
Best of luck to you, Jenna!
