Today actor John Hurt (who portrayed the part of Professor Oxley in Indiana Jones latest cinematic adventure, The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull) celebrates his 75th birthday.
Hurt was born in Shirebrook, Derbyshire, Great Brittain.
His mother Phyllis was an engineer and one-time actress and his father a mathematician.
Long before Viggo Mortenson rose to fame, portraying Aragorn, it was John Hurt who lend his voice to the same character, in the 1978 animated version of Lord of the Rings, by Ralph Bakshi.
In 1979 Hurt became a household name because of his contribution to Alien.
The other connection to Spielberg lies in his vocal contribution as narrator to the (European produced) film Perfume: The Story of a Murderer, from director Tom Tykwer, that DreamWorks released in the US in 2006. (Spielberg himself even got a special thank you on the credits of the film).
There are currently 5 films and a TV-series in various stages of development, that John is working on. So we haven't seen or heard the last of him yet.
Happy Birthday professor !
Rony.
