As part of the BFI’s three-month blockbuster season, presented together with O2, the BFI will be celebrating  Star Wars Day  on Saturday 13 December 2014, with special guests to be announced in due course. As the UK continues to play a major role in the production of JJ Abrams’ forthcoming Star Wars film, the BFI are taking audiences back to the very beginning with a very special day dedicated to the mother of all space operas. Star Wars Day will comprise screenings of the special editions of Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope (1977), Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back (1980) and Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi (1983), plus special guests (TBA). The world premiere for the most anticipated cinema event of the year — The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, the epic conclusion to Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit Trilogy — will make its worldwide debut in London on December 1, 2014. The Oscar-winning filmmaker, along with members of his cast and filmmaking team, will greet fans and the world’s media on the red carpet in London’s iconic Leicester Square in the first of many global events to celebrate the end of the 13-year cinematic journey to Middle-earth. Tony Award-winning actor Mark Rylance has been cast as the giant in Steven Spielberg's adaptation of the classic children's book by Roald Dahl,  The BFG .  Rylance is currently working with Spielberg on the Cold War drama St. James Place . Of the casting, Spielberg had this to say: “As I witnessed on stage, Mark Rylance is a transformational actor,” said  Spielberg.  “I am excited and thrilled that Mark will be making this journey with us to Giant Country. Everything about his career so far is about making the courageous choice and I’m honored he has chosen ‘The BFG’ as his next big screen performance.” The BFG  is expected to being filming early in 2015, and it has a U.S. release date of July 1, 2016. Drew Struzan was honoured with the Saul Bass Award at The Hollywood Reporter's Key Art Awards which was held on October 23rd at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. "Drew manages to embody not only the film narrative in the poster but the actual magic of going to the movies," says Guillermo del Toro, echoing the sentiment of the scores of filmmakers who have benefited from Struzan's artistry over the years. "He encapsulates both an era and an experience." Like all true artists, Struzan knew his calling the moment he picked up a brush -- although his parents were hardly encouraging while he was growing up in Oregon and California. They gave him "no support, no understanding," he says. But he found comfort in art. And, in 1965, at the age of 18, he was accepted into Los Angeles' Art Center College of Design. Details of the much anticipated Lucas Museum of Narrative Art has been revealed by George Lucas at a forum on October 17th. The Lucas Museum of Narrative Art will open up in the Museum Campus on the city’s lakefront in Chicago "It's going to be organic architecture, connected to the ground. And it will look like a living thing," he said in the conversation with interviewer Charlie Rose at the Cadillac Palace Theatre. Lucas wants a showcase for his collection of popular art, including illustrations by Norman Rockwell, Maxfield Parrish and N.C. Wyeth as well as works by Lucas's visual effects company, Industrial Light and Magic, and other companies. The museum will also feature art linked to film and digital media, as well as a theater that will screen films and host lectures and workshops.  Lucas, who has collected art since he was in college, explained that by "narrative art" he means "art that tells a story."  "Illustrative art...

Lego and Jurassic Park fan, Sami "Senteosan" Mustonen is at it again to try and bring us the Lego Jurassic Park sets we fans deserve. LEGO builder Sami "Senteosan" Mustonen, for instance, recently initiated a campaign at LEGO Ideas, hoping to gain enough support to make his Jurassic Park set an official LEGO product. Mustonen's set is based off of the iconic gate to the classic film's titular theme park and would include the gate itself, one of the park's cars, three mini-figures based off of characters from the film and a LEGO T-Rex. The T-Rex is notably also the subject of another sepertate campaign Mustonen is running entitled "Bricksauria." The Force is not with Empire Brewing Co.  The New York-based brewery is being sued by Disney-owned Lucasfilm over their "Empire Strikes Bock" lager.  On October 15, Lucasfilm filed a notice of opposition with the Trademark Office claiming that the name is too close to the title of the 1980 film, Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back . The brewery also uses phrases such as "May the hops be with you," and an ad on their website uses a crawl similar to that used at the beginning of every Star Wars films to date. While the brewery has been producing their beer for seven years, trouble arose when they decided to file trademark papers for the product.  Since Star Wars creator George Lucas is already in the alcohol business with his Skywalker-brand wine, Lucasfilm fears confusion will arise and the public will think the beer produced by the brewery is an officially licensed product. It's by no means official but according to an insider who claims to be in the know, the trailer for Jurassic World has been pushed back from what many were saying was going to be shown during the release of Interstellar.  Now it seems we will have to wait until The Hobbit 3 is released on December 17th. "I just got word that the theatrical trailer has been pushed back to debut with The Hobbit.  This is for strategic reasons and not because of any actual delay with getting it ready.  Universal is choosing to debut the Fast 7 trailer on Interstellar instead.  Whether or not they still choose to debut it online in November, I have no idea." A fan has put together the Walt Disney, Bad Robot and Lucasfilm opening.  It may just look like this in December 2015. I've seen other fan edits but I wanted to make one that works better musically. I slowed down the Disney music and combined it with Evan Goldman's orchestration ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-0zZg... ) so that it'd be in the same key as John Williams' opening music. This gives it a similar effect to the 20th Century Fox fanfare that we're all used to. I also timed the Disney castle intro, an abridged Bad Robot title, and the modern Lucasfilm title to align better with the music. The Oscar-nominated Catalina Sandino Moreno is set to join the cast of the Spielberg executive produced alien invasion show, Falling Skies.  Moreno is going to have a recurring role in the final season of Falling Skies and will play Isabella, an academic before the invasion and now on the run and seeking somewhere to just settle down so to speak. She is a realist and canny survivor who poses as a nurse in order to win John (Colin Cunningham) approval and trust. Moreno currently recurs on Fox’s Red Band Society. Her other TV credits include FX’s The Bridge. On the film side, she’ll next be seen in upcoming A Most Violent Year and Incarnate. George Lucas has expressed his opinion of today's state of the film industry and film studios on "CBS:  This Morning" "You're selling creativity. Raw creativity from talented people," Lucas told "CBS This Morning" co-host Charlie Rose at Chicago Ideas Week. "Now, the problem has always been the studios. Although the beginning of the studios, the entrepreneurs who ran the studios were sort of creative guys. They would just take books and turn them into movies and do things like that. Suddenly all these corporations were coming in. They didn't know anything about the movie business."  Lucas said they started hiring "kids" from film schools.  "They supposedly know how to make films. October 3rd-5th 2014 saw the third Star Trek event from Showmasters/Media 10 within the past few years and the second to be held in the Excel Centre, London. I was fortunate to have attended the original 2012 show and loved every minute.  When it was announced there would be a return to the UK for the next show, I had not expected to be able to make it this time.  Having already budgeted and booked London Film and Comic Con in July my budget was already stretched.  However, then came further details and guest line up and for myself and my mate, Rob, the words James Darren and Party were enough to start asking the question.  How do we make this event happen?
