Get Ready Player Two.  Strap on your headset and let's return to the Oasis.  The sequel to the 2011 Ernest Cline virtual world adventure, Ready Player One is set for release on November 24th. Ernest Cline has been hard at work to bring us the sequel to Ready Player One and it was announced yesterday that the sequel will be release in November with pre-orders already available.   Expect more 1980s pop-culture references and a virtual world where all dreams are possible in Ready Player Two. Not much is known about the sequel apart from Ernest Cline confirming the main characters from Ready Player One will be returning and the book is 384 pages.  We do have the cover which doesn't give much away except for an 8-bit figure that looks like the main character from the Atari 2600 game, Pitfall.  Could we see an Indiana Jones style adventure perhaps? Movies In VR Are A Thing Of Beauty Recently, I decided to enter the Oasis and bought myself an Oculus Go .  If you're not familiar with what this is, it's basically an inexpensive introduction to the world of VR (Virtual Reality.)  It's a standalone device without the needs for cables that, although doesn't track your body movement does track your head movement giving the full VR experience.  It cost me £149 from Amazon (this is not a sponsored post) and I was eager to get my first taster of home VR.  Spoiler: I was not disappointed! The model I bought was the 32gb version, enough to see me install the apps I needed and copy across a few movies from my collection.  This process is simple.  Using the standard micro USB cable that is supplied, just plug it into your PC and copy your files across.  Since I had a few Star Wars movies this was my first choice. Video Games Featured In Ready Player One I love Ready Player One from Ernest Cline, it is one of the most thrilling books I've had the pleasure of reading in years. The story throws a lot of 80's and gaming references throughout and this was perfect for me. I'm a huge fan of the 80's as this was my teenage years so I look back at that decade with fondness. I'm also an avid gamer and have been since the days of Space Invaders, so many of the gaming references I connected with and brought a retro-inducing smile to my face. As a result of reading this epic story my expectations for the Steven Spielberg movie which is set to hit cinema screens in March are higher than any movie release in years. 8-bit Retro Goodness Added To Ready Player One Trailer You have to love the Internet. Its full of useful information on everything and if you have a particular interest you are bound to find something on the subject. Take retro 8-bit. If you grew up in the 80's and early 90's then you will have a certain affection for this style of artwork. Ready Player One Hits The Half A Billion Mark It's safe to say Steven Spielberg's Ready Player One is a box office success.  It's now taken over $500 million at the worldwide box office.  The movie based on the excellent novel by Ernest Cline enjoyed a particularly strong showing at the Chinese box office with $61 million alone.  The domestic run (U.S) brought in a whopping $120 million so retro is definitely the in thing across the U.S.A.  The budget for Ready Player One is rumoured to be around the $175 million mark so not a bad return for Warner Bros. The numbers for Ready Player One are set to increase even further with Japan pulling the short straw and having to wait until only last week to get the cinema release arriving at their cinemas. Steven Spielberg Has Brought In A Gross Total Of $10bn at the Worldwide Box Office Ready Player One has reached $475m at the worldwide box office and thanks to this number it sees Steven Spielberg directed movies pushed over the overall ten billion dollars at the worldwide box office.  This of course means that all his movies combined over the decades see Spielberg the first director to achieve this dizzying high number.  His closest rivals are Peter Jackson (Lord of the Rings), James Cameron (Avatar) and Michael Bay (Transformers) who all sit around the $6bn mark. Steven Spielberg has said in a previous interview that he isn't that concerned for box office takings especially these days when it comes to his movies and doesn't look back.  'I make movies and I work a lot and I look forward all the time. Ready Player One Hits $400 Million At The Box Office Last week we reported Ready Player One had hit $300 million at the box office in its first week of release.  Well the Steven Spielberg directed movie based on Ernest Cline's novel is still taking the box office by storm. The Warner Bros. release has now taken $398 million at the box office worldwide and domestic sales (U.S.) sees the movie breaking the $100 million mark.  These figures don't include Monday and Tuesday sales which when added will most definitely see Ready Player One over $400 million at the box office.  This is after only two weeks, so with at least another week on release we are likely going to see it close to taking half a billion dollars at the box office.  Not a bad run and it will see the first Steven Spielberg movie since Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull in 2008 to hit the half a billion mark.  That movie took $786 million worldwide with a budget of $185 million....

Ready Player One Music Video With Plenty Of Lucasarts Gunship have released a new video and it tells the story of Ernest Cline's Ready Player One in five minutes.  What makes it extra special is that the whole video is done in the style of a classic point and click adventure game, in particular a Lucasarts SCUMM™   adventure.  This has become one of my favourite music videos of all time.  The song that accompanies is perfect and has a sense of Ready Player One intrigue about it. Seriously though, how good would a Ready Player One adventure game be?  I could think of two ways this could be done.  The first would be in classic style, so keeping the retro theme just like in the music video.  Tim Schafer are you listening?  The second way would be an episodic adventure in the style of TellTale Games.  After all, you can do anything and be anyone in The Oasis so why not have each episode with a different character, story and scenario? ...

Ready Player One Is Spielberg's First Movie Since Tintin To Reach $300M Ready Player One is taking the cinema box office by storm and has reached $300 million in its first week.  Warner Bros. will be pleased.  China has falling in love with Ready Player One with takings sitting at $143 million, that's almost half of the takings overall making the movie Warner's best performing movie in that part of the world.
