The Bearded Trio

I was lucky enough to have caught Star Wars in the cinemas when it first hit the big screens way back in 1977.  From the moment I left the cinema screen in South Wales I couldn’t get enough of that galaxy far far away.  My favourite Star Wars fix were my Star Wars figures, recreating scenes and inventing an elaborate expanded universe all from the comfort of my bedroom. My first figures were Luke Skywalker with his yellow telescopic lightsaber and Princess Leia with her white plastic cloak.  Filling in for the ‘baddies’ back then was a figure of Maximilian from Disney’s The Black Hole.  The cast was a mishmash and a bit small but it didn’t stop my imagination.  Soon they were joined by a cocky Han Solo and a Millennium Falcon.  Now we’re talking, although the plot from that moment on involved the Empire somehow trying to steal the Falcon.  Sometimes they succeeded which would carry over to next play time. How Star Wars fuelled my imagination by Dominic Holder Several months ago I wrote a blog about my earliest experiences of Cinema and the way it changed my life forever, feel free to read it here . That was a tale about the wonders of seeing a film called Star Wars and its sequel The Empire Strikes Back in this cavernous dark room on a screen the size of a football pitch. Argos 1985 Retro Toy Goodness From 80's Argos Catalogues For those who are not familiar with Argos, it is a UK store that is generally situated on the high street and in town/city centres. Here's the thing, even though they have stores, generally nothing is on display. Instead you walk in and order your item from a catalogue, find the item you want in the rather large book, write down the item number and take your ticket to the till. Within a few minutes your item will appear on a conveyor belt from the depths of the store room. I always imagined the store room to be like the end scene from Raiders Of The Lost Ark with one man in a vast room filled with wooden boxes. Anyway I thought you would like to see the Star Wars pages from the 1984 and 1985 catalogues. Star Wars Soap From 1985.  Does It Still Work? It's a question everyone is asking (maybe.)  Does soap from 1985, in particular Star Wars soap still work?  Does it still have that soapy fragrance?  Will it foam and clean my hands?  With all these burning questions I just had to find out so an unboxing video was in order. STAR WARS FAN SELLS BOBA FETT FOR £18000 We all dream of this.  To have one item in our Star Wars collection which we put away for a few years and when we dig it out it turns out to be worth big cash. Well, exactly that has happened to Craig Stevens.  35 years ago he bought a Boba Fett for £1.50 (I remember when they were that price - Rob)  Now he's just sold it at auction for...£18,000 including fees.  It sold to an anonymous UK buyer from off the Internet. Mr Stevens from Croydon, UK said: "I'm amazed at the price, that was absolutely perfect." Sky News tells us: Mr Stevens was selling 85 figures from his collection and the extremely rare Boba Fett, the bounty hunter from Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, was the pick of the sale. It is one of only four or five still in such pristine condition, the former chairman of the UK Star Wars fan club believed. The sale has received bids from around the world.
