It sure looks like Indy-week, these days. A couple of days ago Kingdom of the Crystal Skull had it's birthday, tomorrow The last Crusade , and today we can celebrate Indiana Jones and the temple of Doom 's 31st Birthday. Although not receiving one itself, the film was responsible for the PG-13 rating, because of a couple of rather intense scenes. And it was the only film in the series, where both Spielberg and Lucas, a.k.a. the director and  the man who came up with the character in the first place  made a (very tiny) cameo appearance as a couple of missionaries. By having named two of the bearded ones, we are not complete yet, because in the trio there are three bearded guys, and the third one was, once more, responsible for the music. Enclosed a video I found where a Brass Band plays the music from Temple of Doom, and I must say, I think it sounds great. Rummaging through my old magazines I (re)discovered this gem from 1984.  It's a Dutch magazine with it's main focus on music, but from time to time big (event) films are reviewed as well. I could show you the 8-page article, which is nicely written, but since it is in Dutch, I figure it won't be of much use to you unless of course you speak Dutch. However, the thing that has bugged me ever since I saw the magazine on the shelf in '84, is why nobody on the staff of the magazine noticed this big mistake on the cover ? I know Steven and George looked (a little) alike in those days, but hey, part of the job of a reporter is investigation, isn't it? Even my daughter (who isn't into Spielberg  the way I am (but I don't blame her) immediately noticed the error, by just checking the glasses (Steven is wearing regular glasses is what she said, so I can be proud of her after all), so why didn't anybody in the editing department of the maga...

With all the rumors on a possible fifth Indy-film,  it can never do any harm, looking back at Indy's former adventures. Although Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom was released in 1984,  the French Fantasy-Film-Magazine Impact decided in June 1987  that it was time to devote their cover and a major article on the film.                    The Magazine decided not to focus on the film's darkness, but lifted out the various other components: The supernatural part (the stones did give enormous powers after all), the (dis)functioning of Willie Scott in the story, The humor to enlighten the events, and of course how the famous chase in the mines was created.                               There is (undoubtedly) more to come...
