Both Mellody Hobson and husband, George Lucas are to be among those being honoured at the 13th annual "Backstage at the Geffen" fundraiser on March 22nd.  The event will take place  in the Gil Cates Theater at the Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles.  Proceeds from the event are put toward new play development and playwright commissions, as well as the theatre's education and outreach programs. Hobson, chairman of the Board of Directors for DreamWorks Animation, and her husband, Lucas, will be honored with the Distinction in Service Award, and filmmaker David Furnish, best known for his documentary “Elton John: Tantrums & Tiaras,” and John will receive the Distinction in Theater Award. George Lucas and Mellody Hobson could possibly be the most generous couple in the US right now.  They're donating $25m to the University of Chicago Laboratory Schools bringing their total donations to Chicago Institutions to more than $50m. At Hobson and Lucas' request, the building will be named the Gordon Parks Arts Hall in honor of Parks, the first African-American staff photographer for Life magazine and later the first African-American to direct a major Hollywood movie, his most famous film being 1971's "Shaft." Rogers said he believes the arts hall will be the first building on the University of Chicago campus named after an African-American. It seems George Lucas is a big fan of coffee.  Starbucks coffee anyway as he has just bought $10 million in stock from the company. TheWrap.com write: George Lucas has bought $10 million in Starbucks stock, a sign of confidence in the company where his wife Mellody Hobson is a member of the board, according to an SEC filing. A new filing by Hobson, Lucas’s wife and a Starbucks board member, revealed that Lucas's GWL Living trust bought 141,573 shares on August 19 for an average price of $70.60. Lucas is the sole trustee and beneficiary of the trust. Hobson is a hugely successful executive in her own right and married Lucas in June (photo by Donna Newman). Huffington Post have reported that George Lucas and his wife Mellody Hobson have welcomed their first biological child, daughter Everest Hobson Lucas. Lucas who already has three adopted children and Hobson got married in June and on Friday they welcomed their first child together. The girl, who was delivered via surrogate. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Mellody Hobson and her fiance George Lucas will marry on June 29th at the Chicago Peninsula Hotel.  The couple got engaged in January this year after seven years together. A spokesperson for Lucasfilm declined to confirm wedding details. The marriage would be Hobson's first and Lucas' second. Read the full article here.
