Les Dilley Gets Outstanding Contribution Award At BAFTA WALES. On Sunday, production designer and art director Leslie (Les) Dilley received the Outstanding Contribution Award , one of the highest accolades BAFTA can award at the British Academy Cymru Awards.  It was streamed live online and Alex Jones (not that one) was the host. Les Dilley was born in the Rhondda, Wales and has worked on some of the most iconic movies such as Star Wars: A New Hope, Empire Strikes Back, Raiders of the Lost Ark and Alien to name but a few. James Cameron started off the compliments explaining how he had the pleasure of working with Les in 1988 on The Abyss  and how it was a "horrifically challenging film for a number of reasons and we always that felt we were in such great hands from the design, from the sense of functionality of this deep ocean  underwater drilling rig to the execution of it, Les was able to build sets that were so real, feeling to us as the crew and to the audience ...

Cymru am byth, George! During the Welsh Bafta's this Sunday, George Lucas will be giving a special message along with James Cameron and others. Handing our awards will be Catherine Zeta-Jones and singer Katherine Jenkins to name a few.  TV series, Dark Materials has a whopping nine nominations and Sir Anthony Hopkins is up for best actor for his performance as Pope Benedict XVI in The Two Popes. There will be 21 categories in total and George Lucas will be giving his special message for the outstanding contribution to film and television.  Welshman, art director and production designer, Leslie Dilley will receive the award.  Dilley won an Oscar for Star Wars in 1978 and for Raiders of the Lost Ark in 1981. Hans Zimmer To Appear At Royal Albert Hall In July Hans Zimmer will take part in a rare ‘in conversation’ event at the Royal Albert Hall next week, sharing the secrets of his remarkable career in the latest instalment of a groundbreaking BAFTA series. Tim Schafer, founder of Double Fine Productions, wins the BAFTA Games Fellowship Award at the BAFTA Games Awards 2018. Ex-Lucasarts genius, Tim Schafer  accepted the BAFTA Games Fellowship Award on Thursday in London.  Tim brought us classics such as Full Throttle, Grim Fandango and Day of the Tentacle to name a few.  Schafer said: “It’s kind of bewildering,” he says modestly, “because there’s nothing quite like this in America. It’s not like just being awarded with something, more like being welcomed into something. I enjoy that feeling.” Tim Schafer founded Double Find Productions which has brought us fine games such as The Cave and Broken Age. BAFTA are to acknowledge the talented Tim Schafer and his services to video games by awarding him the highest accolade at BAFTA.  Schafer will receive the BAFTA Fellowship in April.  The award recognises "an outstanding and exceptional contribution to film, games or television" and if anyone deserves the award it's Tim. Schafer tells us: “I am surprised, humbled, and honored to be receiving the BAFTA Fellowship this year...BAFTA's long-standing support of video games and championing of creativity and strong storytelling in that medium, have had an extremely positive impact and I'm very grateful to be recognized by them with this Fellowship.” Amanda Berry OBE chief executive of BAFTA said this about the game designer, "Tim Schafer is a true pioneer of game design, who has pushed the boundaries of the medium through his extraordinary talents." The EE British Academy Film Awards Nominees for 2017 have been announced and La La Land leads the way with 11 nominations ( You can read our review here. )  Rogue One: A Star Wars Story hasn't been left out and gets two nods.  One in the Make up and hair category and the other one in special visual effects. Best Music category sees an absence of John Williams with Arrival, Jackie, La La Land and Nocturnal Animals all getting nominations.  Nocturnal Animals has ended up with 9 nominations overall including Tom Ford for best director.  Arrival also ended up with 9 nominations. Fantastic Beasts sees itself grabbing five. The BAFTA Award Nominations have been announced today and it seems the hot favourite is the space thriller, Gravity. The film directed by Alfonso Cuaron has picked up no less than eleven nominations including Best Film. The soundtrack to The Book Thief by John Williams, his first non-Spielberg soundtrack in eight years has also picked up a nomination in the Best Soundtrack category. Industrial Light & Magic continue to stamp their authority on the visual effects industry with two nominations. One for Star Trek Into Darkness and the other for Pacific Rim.
