It seems George Lucas is starting to get a good choice for locations for his latest dream, the Lucas Museum of Cultural Arts. Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti has launched a campaign to woo the Lucas Museum of Cultural Arts, a legacy project of “Star Wars” creator George Lucas, stepping into what had been a two-way battle between Chicago and San Francisco for the director’s private art collection. Garcetti is offering a site in Exposition Park, the equivalent to Chicago’s Museum Campus and home to the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, a National Historic Landmark that hosted two Olympic Games and still hosts University of Southern California football games. “It’s in South L.A. right next to USC,” said Molly Fowler, a spokeswoman for Garcetti. “And in there is a number of cultural destinations for the city of L.A., including the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, the Natural History Museum (of Los Angeles County), the (California) Science Center and the California African-American Mus...

The battle for who gets the Lucas Cultural Arts Museum is an epic one.  The battle seems to between Chicago and San Francisco and it's the latter that has revealed it's latest weapon.  A prime spot near the bay bridge, which was near the original proposal the museum failed to get a few months back.   San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee plans to officially offer George Lucas a prime lot near the Bay Bridge as the site for a museum to house the "Star Wars" creator's collection of illustrative art and Hollywood memorabilia. "It's the best site we could find both in terms of location and for winning the needed approvals in a timely fashion," said one source close to the talks. Known as Seawall Lot 330, the site is across the Embarcadero from Piers 30-32, where just a month ago the Golden State Warriors were planning to build their 18,000-seat arena. Chicago's efforts to land the George Lucas Museum could mean a brand new building along the city's lakefront Museum Campus. Dozens of Chicago citizens and probably all fans of Lucasfilm and Star Wars flocked on the public hearing that took place Wednesday to see a presentation and be "convinced" why the Lucas Cultural Museum of Art should find a permanent home in Chicago. About 50 citizens interested in luring George Lucas' collection of art and movie memorabilia to Chicago were present at the start of a Wednesday night public hearing of a task force trying to find a local site for the museum.  And the Galatic Empire seemed to be otherwise engaged, as no one had arrived in costume by the time the hearing began under the world’s largest Tiffany stained-glass dome in an ornate hall at the Chicago Cultural Center. “It would interesting to have this type of museum because to me it would be hard to find anything to rival it,” said Michael Howe of Chicago, a graphic designer and art school graduate, who was among the first to arrive for the public hearing.
