Sad news as we learn this morning that music legend and star of Labyrinth, David Bowie has died at the age of 69.  He has been battling cancer for the last 18 months. His son director Duncan Jones confirmed the news and a statement was released on his official social media accounts. "David Bowie died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18-month battle with cancer," it said. "While many of you will share in this loss, we ask that you respect the family's privacy during their time of grief." Bowie will of course be remembered for his impressive music career with songs like Let's Dance, Life on Mars and Space Oddity.  Movie fans of a certain age will of course remember David Bowie as Jareth the Goblin King in the Jim Henson directed Labyrinth (1986.)  The movie saw Bowie dance and sing including Dance Magic. Its been 28 years since we were treated to Jim Henson's magic and Lucasfilm's clever work on the movie Labyrinth. Well now the good news is we are set for a sequel or will it be a remake?  No word on casting but it must have Mr Bowie right?  Also the bog of eternal stench must make a return. Variety reported that Labyrinth 2 is definitely happening.  No other news is available on the sequel/remake at this time but we'll keep you informed. Back in the mid-1980's, George Lucas was the executive producer on a the fantasy adventure classic Labyrinth .  While not a huge success at the time, the film has achieved cult status over the years - and it stands as a testament to the everlasting genius of Jim Henson and his Creature Shop .  It also introduced a generation of impressionable teenage girls, such as myself, to David Bowie.  We are forever grateful.  In the video below - which was released as part of the Labyrinth electronic press kit - Lucas discusses how his collaboration with Jim Henson on The Empire Strikes Back came about, and how Yoda was an experiment for both filmmakers.  He also talks a bit about the casting of David Bowie in the role of the Jareth the Goblin King, and about which Labyrinth character is his favorite. Sad news as we learn that Christopher Malcolm who played Zev Senesca (Rogue 2) in Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back and the father in another Lucasfilm production, Labyrinth has died.  He will most likely be most remembered for his potrayal of Brad Majors in the original stage production of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Christopher's daughter tweeted yesterday: Today the world lost a beautiful, brilliant man. My dad Christopher Malcolm left peacefully and with dignity. He will always be my hero.
