Netflix just sent us straight back to the living room carpet in 1987 So Netflix have decided to mess with our nostalgia and released a VHS-style version of Stranger Things. Not joking. You can watch it on Netflix but it looks exactly like it’s coming through your old VCR. Grainy picture, fuzzy sound, random crackles, and that glorious 4:3 format that made everything look like it was filmed in a shoebox. It honestly looks like something you got from that one person we all knew who could get the latest movies. Barry the barber was my source. And I have to admit, it made me grin. It got me thinking. Should streaming platforms do more of this? It’s not real VHS of course, but it scratches that retro itch. Imagine watching Raiders, Star Wars or E.T. like this. And yes, everyone seemed to have a dodgy copy of E.T. at some point. Good idea or just a bit of fun. Right, I’m off to adjust the tracking before the picture starts rolling. Eli likes to scrounge for scrap metal, and one fateful day he scores his biggest find yet when he climbs a fence and finds a bunch of dead bikers who look like they are going to a costume party with a "What We Thought The Future Would Look in the early '80's" theme. As "Stranger Things" fans get stoked to binge watch the show's second season on Netflix, Sony Pictures Consumer Products is teaming with Reebok and BAIT for a Limited Edition run of the Reebok Ex-O-Fit Hi Clean model, featuring exclusive designs inspired by the 1984 classic  Ghostbusters  film. For the upcoming season, the "Stranger Things" producers teamed with Ghost Corps on the show's Ghostbusters storyline, and Sony Pictures Consumer Products put the collaboration together. As a backstory, we find Ghostbusters superfan Dustin has modified his Ex-O-Fit Hi by drawing his own Ghostbusters designs onto the shoe.  The shoes with that design will now be available for die-hard sneakerheads and fans. There's just a few days to go now before we return to the upside down world in Strangers 2.  To heighten your anticipation for this popular Netflix series they have released a new illustrated poster that seems to tip its hat to the classic 80's movie posters that we all love.  Drew Struzan would be proud. The residents of Hawkins, Indiana are just getting over the horror of the first season and it seems they won't have time to relax as the new series continues.  Set in 1984 expect more glorious retro references and a wonderful soundtrack by Kyle Dixon and Michael Stein. The latest and final trailer for Stranger Things Season 2 has been released.  Stranger Things 2 as the creators, Matt and Ross Duffer prefer to call it will be released on Netflix, 27th October just in time for Halloween. The new series will pick up a year later and of course all kinds of weird goings on is still on the menu along with Eggos.  There's some weird spider cloud creature, telekinesis, strange dimensions and Eleven is back looking more sinister than ever.  The old gang seem to have a 'Lost Boys' confidence about them from the vibe in the trailer but we'll have to wait and see if that lasts throughout the season.  One thing is for sure we are destined for more glorious retro 80's surroundings and a gripping story that has a tinge of Spielberg, King and Lovecraft. San Diego Comic Con was the place to be if you're a Stranger Things fan and lets be honest, who isn't?  The cast and masterminds behind the Netflix series were on stage for the hour long panel and a new trailer for season two was revealed to a roaring crowd. The trailer is three minutes long and packed with 80's goodness as well as a heavy dose of horror.  Look out for Dragon's Lair (I hated that game.  Soaked up my money like it was a packet of Oreos.)  A Reagan/Bush '84 campaign sign, Michael Jackson's Thriller complete with Vincent Price and of course the Ghostbusters.  In fact Ghostbusters seems to feature heavily and a makeshift ghost trap seems to be the centre of attention in one scene. A new teaser trailer for Stranger Things Season 2 has been released today along with a new poster.  Check out that sky in the poster.  That looks a little ominous, reminds me of Close Encounters. The new series is set in 1984 and will hit Netflix this Halloween.  Expect to see references to Ghostbusters, Gremlins and definitely Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.  Wouldn't be surprised if they drop in a few for A Nightmare on Elm Street and The Last Starfighter too. The two are hailed for their contributions to sci-fi, and have been highly influential on all aspects of the genre since the 1970s. When looking at the monsters in any modern sci-fi flick, you’d be hard pushed to ignore the relevance to the films that started it all. The same can be said for gaming, with the ideas that sprouted in films like E.T evolving into characters like Abe in the Oddworld series. Between the two directors, there isn’t much they haven’t thought of. It could be argued that every sci-fi film since the 70s has taken some inspiration from Lucas and Spielberg’s first flourishes in the genre. We all loved Stranger Things with all its 80's retro goodness and that Spielberg feel ( You can read our review of season one here. )  Season two is just around the corner and it's still set in the 80's, this time 1984.  To tease us and whet our appetite EW released this photo of the gang dressed in Ghostbusters outfits. Also a promo for the next season will hit US TVs during the Super Bowl this Sunday (February 5th) In the photo we see Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo), Mike (Finn Wolfhard) and Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin), who are all dressed as Ghostbusters (The movie came out in 1984.) The 59th Grammy Awards will take place on February 12th and there is a battle of the soundtracks heating up in the Best Score Soundtrack For Visual Media category.  Of course John Williams is in the mix with Star Wars: The Force Awakens.  If he wins then it will be the 23rd time he has stepped up to except a Grammy.
