BRAD'S APRIL ESCAPE, PART 10 - STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS

Brad’s April Escape - Part 10 April 16 - Star Wars: The Force Awakens Each weekday this month, I’ll screen a film from The Bearded Trio Cinematic Universe and list 10 random scenes, characters, musical cues or performances that I particularly enjoy and look forward to upon every viewing. I’d love to hear similar little things you enjoy about these films, and hope you join me in this escape from the present-day world. Next up is the film that brought Star Wars into a new era,  Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015) The Force Awakens - An Introduction I'll be up front about this - I am not the biggest fan of the Sequel Trilogy. Narratively, it's a mess and suffers from a lot of issues inherent in key decisions about the plot and characters across the three films. But this is not the place for me to air grievances. My presence on this website will be a positive and supporting one. There's enough negativity on the net about Star Wars, and well, pretty much...

Movie Review: Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is an Exciting and Emotional Journey

STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER Starring Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega. Oscar Isaac, Anthony Daniels, Naomi Ackie, Domnhall Gleeson, Kellie Marie Tran, Kerri Russell,  Richard E. Grant,  Ian McDiarmid   and Billy Dee Williams Screenplay Chris Terrio and JJ Abrahms Directed by J.J. Abrams Reviewed by Paul & Patrick Gibbs  Out of Four When we first saw a press screening of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, most of us who attended the screening fell in love with the film and considered it a masterpiece. When we ran into writer and Star Wars expert Bryan Young later that evening at another screening, we talked between us about how much we loved Rian Johnson's film."I think it's safe to say J.J. Abrams has the hardest job in the world following it", Byan remarked.  Of course it turned out that The Last Jedi became the most divisive film in the entire franchise, loved by some and hated by others. But Bryan was sti...

It's time for Steve's Star Wars news roundup.  This week Steve brings you news from The Last Jedi to the Star Wars Christmas Special.

BREAKING NEWS - J.J. Abrams to Write and Direct Star Wars: Episode IX

J.J. Abrams, who launched a new era of  Star Wars  with  The Force Awakens  in 2015, is returning to complete the sequel trilogy as writer and director of  Star Wars : Episode IX. Abrams will co-write the film with Chris Terrio.  Star Wars : Episode IX   will be produced by Kathleen Kennedy, Michelle Rejwan, Abrams, Bad Robot, and Lucasfilm. It was only last week that it was announced that Colin Trevorrow will not be directing Episode IX.  The official statement said both Trevorrow and Lucasfilm (Kathleen Kennedy) mutually decided that it was for the best.  However, recent reports have said that Trevorrow was booted from the director's chair for being 'too awkward.' An official statement from Kathleen Kennedy has been released on today's news.  The Lucasfilm president tells us:  “With  The Force Awakens , J.J. delivered everything we could have possibly hoped for, and I am so excited that he is coming back to...

30 Minute Behind The Scenes Video on Super 8 Is A Wonderful Featurette - Must Watch.

I love a good behind the scenes featurette and this one on J.J. Abram's Super 8 is a gem.  Featuring Giacchino's music from the movie, it has a wonderful story from J.J. Abrams on his love for movies and how he became interested in making movies as a kid with his super 8 camera.  It even shows footage from his old movies.  Also the video has a lot of on set behind the scenes shots and at 27 minutes long its not your usual short talking head five minute featurette that you get shoved on a blu-ray just for filler.  Definitely worth watching. Have I mentioned Steven Spielberg is in the video?  Well as executive producer for Super 8 and a lot of the movie has his influence, of course he's in this.  There's an interesting story on how Spielberg and Abrams actually met. Do you like Super 8?  Let me know in the comments below Rob Wainfur @thebeardedtrio The Bearded Trio - The Site For Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, John Williams and a whole...

Steven Spielberg and J.J. Abrams Teaming Up Once More

Steven Spielberg and J.J. Abrams are once again teaming up but instead of a movie on aliens (Super 8, 2011) the movie will be more down to earth and a whole lot more serious.  The film will be based on a real-life Syrian refugee. A ccording to the Wrap  Spielberg and Abrams have secured the rights to Melissa Fleming’s bestseller A Hope More Powerful Than the Sea: One Refugee’s Incredible Story of Love, Loss, and Survival.  The movie will be produced by Paramount Pictures and Amblin Entertainment. The story revolves around Doaa Al Zamel, a 19-year-old Syrian woman who fled Egypt and set sail for Sweden, only to be shipwrecked and forced to survive for days with nothing but an inflatable water ring secured around her waist. She also saved two children of other refugees who had been travelling with her, as they clung to her throughout the ordeal. No word on who's directing.  We could see Abrams snap this one up who said he wanted to take a break from reboots an...

What the Force Awakens Means to Me

It is April 1st as I write this. The Force Awakens has been out for about three and a half months and it was released digitally at midnight. I have seen the movie nine times in theaters. The hype has began to lessen. My wife and I go to stores and she'll point to a display area and say "this used to be all Star Wars." We shake our heads and say "the end of the era." The hype leading up to and during the Force Awakens' run was pretty monumental. You could not go anywhere without being inundated with Star Wars items. This is hardly a new experience, as the hype leading up to the Phantom Menace (which was even larger with good reason, it being the first Star Wars film in sixteen years) is  well documented . But this time Disney was leading the parade and that is a clear difference maker. The marketing campaign was overwhelming for some, especially non-enthusiasts, but never got to me too much. Mostly I was simply over the moon about a new Star Wars movie. I ...

Star Wars: The Force Awakens -- J.J. Abrams on 60 Minutes, Plus New Music from John Williams

J.J. Abrams was featured in a segment about Star Wars: The Force Awakens on the news magazine show  60 Minutes . Abrams discussed the early days of his fandom after seeing Star Wars in the theater in 1977 when he was 11 years old. It captured his heart and his imagination, and that, combined with his life-long love for filmmaking, has led him to where he stands now -- just days away from the release of what could be one of the biggest films of all-time (if not the biggest overall!). One of the highlights of the 60 Minutes segment was getting to hear snippets of new Star Wars music from legendary composer, John Williams. In a special online bonus video, we get to hear a bit more of that music -- specifically the opening music, after the crawl! -- along with some additional behind-the-scenes glimpses at the making of The Force Awakens . Also featured are brief interviews with Steven Spielberg -- who suggested Abrams to Lucasfilm's Kathleen Kennedy -- and Harrison Ford. ...
