WHO FRAMED ROGER RABBIT Composed and Conducted by  ALAN SILVESTRI INTRADA Special Collection 397 In 1988, Touchstone Pictures and Amblin Entertainment released  Who Framed Roger Rabbit,  a technological marvel integrating animation and live action .   To score the onscreen antics of the wacky Roger Rabbit and his sourpuss human detective-for-hire Eddie Valiant, director Robert Zemeckis called in his trusted composer, Alan Silvestri. The pair first worked together on  Romancing the Stone  and the following year's mega-hit,  Back to the Future.   Having also scored the aggressive action film  Predator  just the year prior, Silvestri was a brand name and brought a diverse set of styles to the colorful, kinetic onscreen action.  Starting with a cool jazz styling in the previously unreleased Main TItle, Silvestri sets the tone for the film, then immediately diverts to a cartoon shooting in progress.  A colorful and w...

A few weeks ago we presented you with a few clips of how Who Framed Roger Rabbit could have looked like, if Disney had chosen not to collaborate with Steven Spielberg, Robert Zemeckis and animator Richard Williams. But they did and we all know the results of that partnership. Richard Williams however did have some experimenting to do, before the film could start shooting. Shown above is one of the model sheets he produced with a few color suggestions for Benny the Cab (around this time he was still referred to as Benny the Car). And since they would be using lots of other toon characters, the producers wanted to see up front how these other toons who look like, compared in size, with Roger and Jessica, so a lot of comparison sheets, like the ones shown here, were produced to show everyone involved that every character would be presented at his or her best. And even though a large part of the film would be animated, that didn't mean those sequences didn't nee...

Before Richard Williams directed the animation for Who Framed Roger Rabbit ? , there was an earlier attempt at the Disney -Studio's, from 1981 to 1983, to adapt Gary K. Wolf’s book “ Who Censored Roger Rabbit ? ” into a feature. The animation was to be supervised by Darrell Van Citters and Paul Reubens. However, a few years later, when Steven Spielberg's Amblin Entertainment , Robert Zemeckis and animator Richard Williams had entered the production, Roger Rabbit had to do a screen-test, just like all the regular actors... Going trough my collection I bumped into these two little tapes with the original radio play of Who Framed Roger rabbit ?  Got me thinking: Do they still make these kinds of releases (on CD of course) of high profile films at all ?
