VIDEO: Return of the Jedi Documentary Presented by...Um Leonard Nimoy?

Spock Talks Star Wars Yes, you read that right.  This is a 1983 documentary that I came across on Youtube and is has Star Trek's Leonard Nimoy presenting the show.  Well this makes perfect sense.  What next?  Billy Dee presenting the making of Star Trek Into Darkness? The show was called Standby...Lights! Camera! Action! and aired on the Nickelodeon channel in the US.  This would have been filmed slap bang in between Wrath of Khan (1982) and Search for Spock (1984.)  Other movies covered in the show included E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial, The Goonies, Cocoon and Back to the Future to name a few.

Star Trek Discovery - My Thoughts On The First Episode *Spoiler Free*

Here are my spoiler free thoughts on Star Trek Discovery.   I am a huge Star Trek fan and think Star Trek: Deep Space Nine is the finest TV ever made.  How does Star Trek Discovery do and is it worthy of have the Star Trek name? The first think I must say about Star Trek Discovery is it looks incredible, probably one of the best looking TV series I've ever seen.  I really mean this!  The battle sequences are up there with anything I've seen on the small screen or the big screen for that matter.  It looks like Star Trek with a hint of Mass Effect at times.  Very pleasing on the eye.  The technology used sometimes looks a little advanced for the timeline but I can forgive this for artistic licence. The sound effects are pleasing, especially for a Trek fan like me.  From time to time you get a familiar chime or alert sound that you know all too well from previous incarnations of Trek. For a pilot episode it has a lot of potential.  N...

The Visual Effects of Star Trek II The Wrath of Khan and ILM's Magic

I Came across this gem of a video showing how the special effects were created for Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan .  There are a bunch of interviews with staff from Industrial Light and Magic and how they came on board straight from working on  Return of the Jedi .  There aim was to bring the special effects to life but have a balance that would still look part of the Trek universe created in the sixties TV series. An interesting part is how they explained that a test screening for the movie was given and instead of incomplete visual effects or animanics they would just insert the storyboard where a visual effect was to be shot.  They said it worked better and the audience totally got it. The epic nebular shots from the movie especially during the main battle at the end are all explained and how they used salt to give the illusion and how the Reliant model was made smaller than the Enterprise to make it easier to move around. It's a really informative vide...

Star Trek TNG First Steps Into The Digital Frontier Video Explains ILM Involvement.

This interesting video shows the involvement from Industrial Light & Magic in bringing the magic effects of Star Trek The Next Generation to the small screen.  Interesting to see how they decided against CGI at the time. James Cromwell is joining the cast of Jurassic World 2 according to  The Hollywood Reporter . Cromwell has got a wealth of movies behind him including Babe, Deep Impact and of course, for me is best known in the Star Trek universe.  He played  Dr. Zefram Cochrane in the Jonathan Frakes directed Star Trek: First Contact. Cromwell will be playing alongside Toby Jones and Justice Smith, Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas and BD Wong. The movie is set for release in 2018.  A few days ago, producer Frank Marshall tweeted that production is about to begin. 10 Examples Of Bad Movie Trailers

The marketing of a movie is perhaps one of the most important parts of selling a movie.  If done well then the anticipation will go through the roof.  Take Star Wars The Force Awakens for example.  Each trailer released for The Force Awakens quickly hit the 50 million+ mark on YouTube and fans watched each one multiple times.  Reaction videos were made showing how fans felt the first time they witnessed the Millennium Falcon flying across their screen.  However if a movie trailer is done badly then it's like the front end of a car losing control, it's hard to correct and bring it under control. A bad trailer for a movie is, most of the time a sign that the movie studio doesn't actually know what they have on their hands and no idea how to promote it.  Here are a few examples of bad trailers. Star Trek Beyond The first trailer for the latest Star Trek movie did not go down well with Star Trek fans.  The trailer felt like the producers were tryi...

Why Star Wars And Star Trek Need Each Other

I’m proud to call myself a Star wars fan and also a Star Trek fan. Ever since I was a child, and particularly with the advent of the internet, the two franchises have generally been seen as two camps. Either you’re a Star Wars fan or a Star Trek fan. You can’t be in both camps is the general consensus with fans. I’ve seen fans at comic cons get quite irate explaining why their love for their chosen franchise is better than the other one. This could be seen as just passionate and there’s nothing wrong with that. But there is definitely a more serious side to the fan base and sometimes a little ugly. On The Bearded Trio site we cover Star Wars and Star Trek.  I’ve had emails from Star Wars fans asking why I have Star Trek material on my site and that I should stop. I’ve even been called a traitor. I’m always happy to explain that I love both Star Wars and Star Trek equally and the two are in my opinion closer than most people think. Yes there are huge differences between the...
