WATCH: George Lucas Predicted Games Will Look Like Movies Back In 1993

VINTAGE VIDEO: Lucasarts Promo From 1993 Featuring George Lucas Below is a Lucasarts promo video from 1993 featuring George Lucas.  The Star Wars creator who back in 1993 was the chairman of the board for Lucasarts starts his speech by saying he is in both businesses.  He then predicts that games will look just like movies: "I'm in the games business.  I've been in the games business for 15 years, I've been developing interactive, multimedia entertainment and I'm a storyteller and I make movies.  One isn't going to wipe out the other...There will be movies and there will be games and the games will look like movies."  Well, here we are 27 years later and he wasn't wrong with that prediction.  Some of the triple-A games on next-gen consoles and PC look absolutely stunning and even in the world of TV and movies, there is a cross-over already happening with The Mandalorian using Epic's Unreal engine to provide the stunning backdrops we are f...

From Bedrooms to Billions: The Amiga Years! Review

'From Bedrooms to Billions: The Amiga Years!' is a feature film documentary that takes you on a detailed, and I mean detailed journey through the development, and life of the Commodore Amiga. If you grew up in the 80's and 90's then you will know how cool the Amiga was.  I remember the first time I powered up my Commodore Amiga 500 and dropped 'Shadow of the Beast' into the disk drive.  I was blown away by the graphics, sound and music.  Especially as my previous computer was a trusty ZX Spectrum and that's how it was for millions of computer users in the late 80's.  Going from a Speccy or C64 to this leviathan, this monster of a machine was mind blowing. The Amiga introduced me, for the first time to classic games such as the mighty absorbing Lucasarts titles.  The Secret of Monkey Island and Indiana Jones were just a few games that were new to me and it was the Amiga that allowed me to experience the talents of Ron Gilbert and Tim Schafer for...

Steven Spielberg And The Missing 'Force' Button

Steven Spielberg as you probably already know is a bit of a gamer and it was only natural when the director was doing one of his regular visits to Lucasfilm in the early 80's that he set his sites on the Star Wars arcade machine that just happened to be taking residence. Little did Spielberg know that the machine was being used and studied by Peter Langston (Ball Blazer and Rescue on Fractalus!) who was there for Lucasfilm Games (later to be Lucasarts.)   Lucasfilm actually had little involvement in the Atari arcade machine but the machine was shipped  to Lucasfilm for reference and for Langston to study.  After studying the manual he discovered a switch that would convert the game into debug mode and allow all sorts of options to be applied.  One in particular was the option to freeze the game and using the fire button you could advance the scene one frame at a time and still move the cursor on screen and blast away those Tie-fighters and other enemies...

Lucasarts.  Boy! Do I miss them.  I have so many gaming memories thanks to those point n' click SCUMM® wielding adventure masters who brought us gaming delights such as Monkey Island, Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis and Full Throttle. Before the days of the Internet getting news on a game you've been waiting for would normally come from a monthly gaming magazine and now and again you would get a full page spread of that game.  Here's 15 Lucasarts ads from over the years with a few being when they were Lucasfilm Games.  Yes, I am old enough to remember Rescue on Fractalus! The graphics at the time for Rescue on Fractalus were jaw dropping. Ad for Maniac Mansion and Zak McKracken.  Back when ads were also an article Now were talking.  One of my all time favourites, Monkey Island.  Zombies Ate My Neighbors ad.  Never had this game.  Still need it for my collection.  Quite a rare game and the SNES version fetc...
