Michael Giacchino Wants John Williams To Do Star Wars VII

Michael Giacchino speaking at a Q&A session in Switzerland has stated that he wants  John Williams  to write the soundtrack for Star Wars VII. "One of the things that excites me most about 'Star Wars' coming back is chance to hear a John Williams score.   If it were up to me I would say 'John, you must do it.'" In February John Williams said at a concert: "Now we’re hearing of a new set of movies coming in 2015, 2016… so I need to make sure I’m still ready to go in a few years for what I hope would be continued work with George [Lucas]." John Williams is our first choice here at The Bearded Trio (obviously) but Michael Giacchino would be a great choice to continue John's work on Star Wars.  If you're not sure of his work, check out the soundtrack to Super 8 which just happens to be directed by none other than J.J. Abrams. Rob @welshslider THE BEARDED TRIO ON FACEBOOK THE BEARDED TRIO ON TWITTER THE BEARDED TRIO ON GOOGLE+

Ron Gilbert Explains What He Would Do To Monkey Island If He Got His Hands On It.

Ron Gilbert has posted on his blog what he would do if he was to create a new Monkey Island.  He does emphasise that he is NOT making one but if he did it would have the following: It would be a retro game that harkened back to Monkey Island 1 and 2.  I'd do it as "enhanced low-res".  Nice crisp retro art, but augmented by the hardware we have today: parallaxing, depth of field, warm glows, etc.  All the stuff we wanted to do back in 1990 but couldn't.  Monkey Island deserves that.  It's authentic.  It doesn't need 3D.  Yes, I've seen the video, it's very cool, but Monkey Island wants to be what it is.  I would want the game to be how we all remember Monkey Island.  It would be a hardcore adventure game driven by what made that era so great. No tutorials or hint systems or pansy-assed puzzles or catering to the mass-market or modernizing.  It would be an adventure game for the har...

ILM's Dennis Muren claims ‘special effects aren't special any more’

Dennis Muren is the man most people in the visual effects industry will name when asked who has been most influential in the industry.  From Star Wars to Indiana Jones to Jurassic Park, Muren has been there.  Now as Creative Director at ILM he talks to   Hollywood.com  and he reveals that "In some ways, I think special effects aren't special anymore." "If you're going to make a motion picture," he explains, "don't just throw computer graphics in to make everything bigger or more. Don't have an army of 20,000 centaurs or whatever it is, if the story is better with seven centaurs. They've lost sight, making things bigger and bigger. Less personal." " In some ways, I think special effects aren't special anymore.  We really were at that stage when we did  Willow ." Muren says that around 1988 and 1989, the entire effects industry was still "doing it the old fashioned way," working through effects-enhanced s...

Dave Filoni Reveals On RebelForce Radio He's Involved In A New Star Wars Animation

RebelForce Radio have released their latest podcast episode where they interview supervising director for The Clone Wars, Dave Filoni. I've just listened to the episode and although Dave Filoni couldn't say too much about where the show is going he did mention that he is involved in the development of a new Star Wars project for Lucasfilm Dave Filoni and  RebelForces Radio Animation.  He said: "At this point, I am involved in some early production discussions and exploration of what we’ll be doing with Star Wars animation in the future, which is really exciting for me and I have some friendly faces around me, of course, that are helping me on the project. So it’s a transition time, as I’ve said before, and I think it will lead to an exciting time and hopefully I’ll see things grow again." That's good news.  No! That's great news!  To me, Dave Filoni is an important part of the Star Wars workings and should always be involved with the name.  The...
