George Lucas with eventual winner Lewis Hamilton  Formula one returned to the USA on the weekend where **Spoiler Alert** Lewis Hamilton who appeared in Pixar's Cars 2 won the race.  Also at the grand prix was the world's latest multi billionaire George Lucas.  The Lotus team were sponsored by the Angry Birds team and sported the Star Wars Angry Birds logo on the nose of the car.  The Star Wars cars finished sixth and Seventh.  Just for the record I watched the grand prix and the folks at Austin Texas should be really proud.  The venue looked amazing and turned out to be one of the best grand prix of the season. HollywoodLife  asked Hollywood power players JJ Abrams and Jon Favreau if they were interested in directingStar Wars: Episode VII. Abrams, a hugeStar Warsfan, stated: "I frankly feel that – I almost feel that, in a weird way, the opportunity for whomever it is to direct that movie, it comes with the burden of being that kind of iconic movie and series. We caught up with the director on Thursday night at the premiere of his latest film, “Lincoln,” where we asked the longtime friend and collaborator of George Lucas about the possibility of directing the upcoming “Episode 7.” “No! No!” Steven said. According to the Hollywood icon, lightsabers, stormtroopers and Wookiees will be somebody else’s responsibility. “It’s not my genre,” the director explained. “It’s my best friend George’s genre.” This will be a disappointment to Forcecast.net where in last weeks podcast predicted that Spielberg will direct episode 7. There is some debate whether George Lucas always intended more Star Wars movies.  I've posted this before but thought it was worth posting again with the recent news of more movies thanks to Disney.  This is a 1979 promotional video for retailers and it predicts 12 more Star Wars movies from George Lucas.  That's 13 in total including A New Hope.  I wonder if Disney have this in mind? Its not every day that someone gets $4billion and then decided to give the majority of it away and for a good cause too.  Education.  According to the Hollywood Reporter  "Lucas plans to quickly put the bulk of the money into a foundation which will primarily focus on educational issues, a spokesperson for Lucasfilm tells THR." Its more than likely that Lucas will donate the money to Edutopia which he is also chairman of.  The Foundation was the vehicle Lucas used to make a $175 million donation to his alma mater USC in 2006. Well its only just been announced and already the talk is who should direct Star Wars 7? Well the hot favourite is of course Joss Whedon who did a great job with a little known film called The Avengers. Guillermo Del Toro is another one who's past record with Pan's Labyrinth and Hellboy would make a good choice. Will this open the door for Spielberg to finally direct a Star Wars movie? He was linked for a while to The Empire Strikes Back so this may be his second chance at getting into the Star Wars universe. In favour with Disney at the moment and most likely is Gore Verbinski who directed the Pirates Of The Caribbean movies, Rango and the upcoming Lone Ranger with Johnny Depp. What about Steve Moffat who wrote the latest Tin-Tin movie, brought us the fabulous Sherlock to our small screens and currently is responsible for the latest Doctor Who? With Disney now taking over Lucasfilm and acquiring the Star Wars franchise there's undoubtedly going to be a "don't touch our baby" vibe doing the internet.  Initially I thought the same but don't forget Disney own Pixar and Marvel and they are still going strong, if not stronger.  Lets not forget that Star Wars will now find its way into the theme parks with a greater presence than we get now with Star Tours.  We have been promised more Star Wars movies and this could be a good thing if done right and with episodes 7, 8 and 9 this means they will have more of the original trilogy about them.  Star Wars could find its way into the Disney stores or even better Disney may decide to open Star Wars stores.  They've paid a lot of money for the franchise so don't be surprised if we see more of a presence on the high street or at the mall. George Lucas and Kathleen Kennedy discuss the future of Star Wars movies.

Disney said it planned to release a new Star Wars film, episode seven, in 2015. That will be followed by episodes eight and nine and then one new movie every two or three years, the company said. The last Star Wars film was 2005's Revenge of the Sith, and Disney said it believed there was "substantial pent-up demand". Disney will pay about half in cash and half in stock, issuing 40 million Disney shares in the transaction.

Disney is paying $4.05 billion to buy Lucasfilm Ltd., the production company behind "Star Wars," from its chairman and founder, George Lucas. It's also making a seventh movie in the "Star Wars" series. The Walt Disney Co. announced the agreement to make the purchase in cash and stock Tuesday. Disney added that "Star Wars Episode 7" is scheduled for release in 2015. The deal brings Lucasfilm under the Disney banner with other brands including Pixar, Marvel, ESPN and ABC. Kathleen Kennedy, the current co-chairman of Lucasfilm, will become its president and report to Walt Disney Studios Chairman Alan Horn. Lucas will be creative consultant on new "Star Wars" films. W hat a weekend!  I've just got back from London where Destination Star Trek London was being held at the Excel.  I met all five captains, had numerous photos taken with the actors, got several autographs, helped break the world record for the most amount of Star Trek fans in costume, listened to talks by some of the actors, enjoyed parties and so much more.  But how did it all go?  Was it organised?  Did the organisers hit it off, or did they sink quicker than Riker in the Skin Of Evil?   I had a two day pass for the Saturday and Sunday (along with a press pass so I could sneak into the talks.)  I was joined by four others, my wife and three friends, one of whom, namely Chris, kindly did all the organising and booking.  Myself and Chris were in full costume.  I was sporting an Enterprise jumpsuit while Chris wore a rather fine Captains suit from Star Trek II.
