Rogue One Cast: Getting to Know You

As we all know, the Rogue One: A Star Wars Story teaser trailer was released last month, and being true to all of the Star Wars films, most of the cast in Rogue One, outside of Forest Whitaker and Felicity Jones, may not be familiar to everyone myself included. So for those who want to do some research about the actors before we see the film, I wanted to list some notable roles some of the cast members have played in previous movies.

Felicity Jones played the role of Stephen Hawking’s wife, Jane Hawking in the 2014 film The Theory of Everything. A role for which she was nominated Best Actress in multiple award shows including, AACTA (Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts Awards), Academy Awards, Golden Globes, and the BAFTA Awards. In 2011, she either won or was nominated for best new actress for playing the role of Anna in the 2011 film Like Crazy. I have not seen either of these films, but they are patiently awaiting me in my Netflix queue.

Diego Luna won an award for Best Acting Ensemble in 2008 for playing the role of Jack Lira, in the 2008 film Milk . I currently have his film Walking Vengeance (2008) in my Netflix queue. He was also nominated for Best Actor in this film as well. I really enjoyed Milk, although I haven’t watched Walking Vengeance yet, but I plan to.
Mads Mikkelsen was in a terrific Danish film called The Hunt (2012), in which he played a falsely accused child molester. Not a happy movie by any means, but the acting in this film is top notch. In fact, Madds either won or was at least nominated for Best Actor for his role of Lucas. He also played Hannibal Lecter in the television series Hannibal (2013-2015), in which he was also nominated for Best Actor for a television series.

Forest Whitaker who was absolutely amazing in the 2006 film The Last King of Scotland, in which he won numerous awards for his role of Ugandan dictator, Idi Amin. If you haven’t watched this make sure you do so as soon as possible.
Ben Mendelsohn some of you may be familiar with him for his role of John Daggett in The Dark Knight Rises (2012). He was also nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his role of Neville Love in Starred Up (2013).

Donnie Yen is a well-established actor from Hong Kong who has played in multiple Chinese martial arts films. I recently watched Flash Point (2007), not exactly my cup of tea but his acting was really good. He did win an award for Best Action Choreography for Flash Point. I’ve also heard his Ip Man film series are really good. I haven’t watched any, but I will probably check those out as well.

Jiang Wen is a Chinese actor/director who has won an award for Favorite Actor for the Beijing Student Film Festival for his role of Lieutenant Li in Warrior of Heaven and Earth (2004). He also was nominated for Best Director three times for The Sun Also Rises (2007), Let the Bullets Fly (2010), and Gone with the Bullets (2014). I currently have Warrior of Heaven and Earth in me Netflix queue.

Riz Ahmed was in a really interesting film called Nightcrawler (2014), with Jake Gyllenhaal. In the film, Riz played Rick who was an up and coming member of the paparazzi who was working with Gyllenhaal’s character under his tutelage. For this role, Riz was nominated for Best Supporting Actor and Best Breakthrough Actor. Riz is also a rapper in the U.K.

Alan Tudyk we all know as “Wash” in the ill-fated, but much loved television series Firefly (2002-2003).  Alan has won awards for his voice acting for films like Wreck-It Ralph (2012), and Frozen (2013). He was also nominated for Best Vocal Ensemble in a Feature Film for Big Hero 6 (2014).

I hope you’re looking forward to watching some of these films and getting more familiar with each of these amazing talents as much as I am, and comparing the roles they play in these films with the ones they’ll play in Rogue One. Enjoy!

Star Wars VII Movie Poster - Every End Is A New Beginning

Just saw this Star Wars VII movie poster on Kyle Newman's Facebook feed.  The poster is by Lyndon Berresford and Paul Bateman.
I am loving this.  Who do you think the two characters are?  Lando and Leia?  Han and Leia's children?

Have you seen other Star Wars VII movie posters?  Let me know.

Did Paul Freeman Accidentally Eat A Fly In Raiders of the Lost Ark?

The Famous Indiana Jones Fly In Belloq's Mouth Scene.  Did It Really Happen? I've always wondered if Paul Freeman unintentionally consumed a fly in this scene in Raiders of the Lost Ark?  It's the scene where Indiana Jones shouts down to Bellosh...I mean Belloq and threatens to blow up the ark.  Did a fly go in his mouth?

I remember watching this scene back in the early eighties and my ten year old mind thought he definitely had a snack while filming.  I recall talking about 'flygate' in my school playground at the time and the general consensus with my friends was that Freeman definitely had a sneaky snack.

Paul Freeman talks about the famous 'fly' scene in an interview with TheIndyExperience.com and settled 'flygate:'

This is a bit of a dicey question so don’t get too upset. (Laughs) A movie’s always got bloopers in it, some have a lot, and some only have three or four. And the most remarkable blooper was right before the opening of the Ark scene.…

Pinewood Studios To Expand To The Usa

BBC News have reported that Pinewood Studios are to expand to the USA.  This is great news for the famous studio that is rich in movie history.

UK film studio Pinewood Shepperton has announced plans to build its first sound stages in the United States. The Pinewood Atlanta complex will be built on 288 acres of land south of Atlanta, Georgia, as a joint venture with a US investment company. Georgia has been among the US states drawing film-making away from Hollywood with tax incentives in recent years. The deal is the latest sign of expansion at Pinewood, the home of the James Bond franchise. Earlier this month it announced a joint venture with a Chinese media group, potentially giving it access to the fast-growing Chinese market.
