THX Tune-UP App Now Available For Android Devices.

thx tune-up

The excellent THX tune-up app is no longer exclusive to iOS devices.  Now you can download the app for Android devices.

Android users can also download the THX tune-up app to optimize sound and picture on TVs, projectors and speaker systems. The app from George Lucas-founded THX can adjust your set’s contrast, brightness and aspect ratio settings once connected via HDMI. The app also utilizes a device’s built-in camera to make color and tint adjustments.

THX Extras
Play extraordinary THX trailers to show off your newly tuned TV and sound system
Show off your audio system with the push of a button by playing “THX Deep Note” in 5.1 surround, just like in the cinema (phone or tablet must be connected via HDMI cable)
Turn your phone or tablet into a “moo can” – tilt it to hear the “moo”
Have a question for THX, or just want to provide feedback? Ask Tex!
Device Requirements
THX tune-up works on the following mobile devices with Android OS 4.2.2 or later.

HTC One
HTC One Max
HTC One X
HTC One X+
Nexus 4
Nexus 5
Nexus 7-2013
Nexus 10
Samsung Galaxy S4
Samsung Galaxy Note 3
Connection Requirements

To connect your Android phone or tablet to your TV, projector or AVR you must use an HDMI cable and an HDMI adapter that is compatible with your specific Android device. Current HDMI adapters for Android are MHL to HDMI, Slimport to HDMI or Micro HDMI to HDMI. Please read the specifications for your Android carefully to ensure that you have the correct HDMI adapter. You should be able to see the Android screen on the TV or projector and hear audio from it BEFORE you use THX tune-up.

Sound Adjustments Note

To run the sounds tests with an AVR, set the AVR to “Direct” or “Digital Auto Detect” mode or equivalent. If your AVR does not have this mode, it may not accurately process AAC 5.1 audio tones. Also, check the specifications for your Android device. Some Android devices “virtualize” surround sound audio and will mix and play audio on multiple speakers, even though audio signal may only be on one or two channels – as in the Speaker Assignment and Speaker Phase tests in THX tune-up. In either or both of these cases, the results of the 5.1 speaker/sound adjustments may not be accurate. This is not a problem with the app but due to audio processing of the AVR or Android device.

This app is not a professional calibration tool and is not intended to replace an in-home professional calibration.

Did Paul Freeman Accidentally Eat A Fly In Raiders of the Lost Ark?

The Famous Indiana Jones Fly In Belloq's Mouth Scene.  Did It Really Happen? I've always wondered if Paul Freeman unintentionally consumed a fly in this scene in  Raiders of the Lost Ark ?  It's the scene where Indiana Jones shouts down to Bellosh...I mean Belloq and threatens to blow up the ark.  Did a fly go in his mouth? I remember watching this scene back in the early eighties and my ten year old mind thought he definitely had a snack while filming.  I recall talking about 'flygate' in my school playground at the time and the general consensus with my friends was that Freeman definitely had a sneaky snack. Paul Freeman talks about the famous 'fly' scene in an interview with TheIndyExperience.com  and settled 'flygate:' This is a bit of a dicey question so don’t get too upset. (Laughs) A movie’s always got bloopers in it, some have a lot, and some only have three or four. And the most remarkable blooper was right before the opening of th

Explaining That "Weird" Cut In Poltergeist. Read The Missing Scene

Why Is There A Strange Cut In The 1982 Horror Classic, Poltergeist? If you're a fan of the 1982 Horror classic, Poltergeist then you will be very familiar with that "weird" cut in the movie.  It's 32 minutes and 47 seconds in to the movie and the scene is where Diane is explaining the strange phenomenon that is happening in the kitchen.  First, she shows to Steve a chair scraping across the floor all on its own then she does the same with Carol Anne.  Steve leans up against the kitchen wall and is completely shocked at what just happened.  It's at this point Diane starts to explain the sensation of being pulled and then...A very abrupt cut.  One moment we are listening to Diane and suddenly it cuts to Diane and Steve at their next door neighbours door.  Why the sudden cut?  It's on the VHS, DVD, Blu-Ray and even the streaming versions.  Why does this awful and weird cut exist in the movie, Poltergeist?  Watch the clip below to see the cut: Well, the ans
