Movie Review: "The Beguiled" Is As Interesting As It Is Forgettable

THE BEGUILED Starring Colin Farrell, Nicole Kidman, Kirsten Dunst, Elle Fanning, Ooona Lawrence, Angourie Rice, Emma Howard, Addison Riecke Based on the novel by Thomas Culinan and the screenplay by Albert Maitz and Irene Kamp Screenplay by Sofia Coppola Directed by Sofiia Copola Reviewed by Patrick Gibbs  Out of Four D on Siegel and Clint Eastwood's 1971 Gothic melodrama The Beguiled is pretty well respected film that received favorable reviews, despite being essentially a rather silly, steamy, exploitative thriller with misogynistic themes. Siegel himself said that the story was about "the basic desire of women to castrate men" (and in fairness, I do think a lot of women would like to castrate Siegel and Eastwood after seeing just the trailer for this film.). It's a "hell hath no fury like a woman scorned' story with a bit of a chauvinistic sexual fantasy element (but otherwise, it's very progressive.). But that was 1971, and

Movie Review: "Despicable Me 3" Is A Slight But Enjoyable Romp

DESPICABLE ME 3 Starring the voices of Steve Carrell, Kristen Wiig, Jenny Slate, Trey Parker  and Julie Andrews Screenplay by Cinco Paul and Ken Daurio Directed by Kyle Balda, Pierre Coffin, Eric Guillon Reviewed by Patrick Gibbs  Out of Four The huge and unexpected success of 2010's Despicable Me changed the dynamic of animation in Hollywood. Someone besides Disney or even DreamWorks had now crashed the party and created a mega hit complete with all of the necessary elements for major marketability, and it had crossover appeal to adults. As with any animated franchise, the more it became sequelized and over milked, the less adult friendly it became (the Minions movie was a bit of a chore to sit through), but it has remained a blockbuster game changer and it put Illumination on the map, taking DreamWorks' place as the number two animation studio at the box office. Despicable Me 3 begins with Gru (Steve Carrell) and his new wife Lucy (Kristen Wiig), agents fo

Photo of the Day - Steven Spielberg and Haley Joel Osment Check The Script

T oday's photo of the day comes from A.I. Artificial Intelligence .  Steven Spielberg and Haley Joel Osment check the script intently. Did you know that for the last seven minutes of A.I. the composer John Williams wrote a piano concerto, and it went over the length of the film. Steven Spielberg stopped the projector and told Williams to just let the music continue. Spielberg along with his editor Michael Kahn then re-edited the last seven minutes of movie into Williams' piano concerto. Spielberg did a similar thing years before E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982), where he and Carol Littleton edited the last 15 minutes into Williams' music. Super 8 Score: Behind The Scenes with Michael Giacchino, J.J. Abrams and Steven Spielberg

J.J. Abram's Super 8 is kind of a big screen "Stranger Things."  It has a retro feel, centres around kids and a monster terrorising a small town. Steven Spielberg was the executive producer for the movie and Michael Giacchino composed the impressive soundtrack.  Just like Abrams once said, the movie is a tribute to Spielberg's 70's and 80's alien movies, the soundtrack is a tribute to John Williams and Steven Spielberg as said by Giacchino in this video.  You can tell that Giacchino is a huge fan of Spielberg and Williams.  He says in the video: "Standing on the scoring stage with Steven Spielberg recording the music for this movie...that was a pretty nifty moment I have to say." Look out for Michael Giacchino's super 8 movies in the video which obviously was inspired by Steven Spielberg's E.T. The Extra Terrestrial. Track 1 from the soundtrack. Move Review: "War For The Planet Of The Apes" is a Perfect Wrap-Up To An Extraordinary Trilogy

WAR FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES Starring Andy Serkis, Woody Harrelson, Judy Greer, Amiah Miller, Steve Zahn, Terry Notary, Karin Konoval, Michael Adamthwaite, Aleks Paunovic, Ty Olsson Screenplay by Matt Reeves and Mark Bomback  Directed by Matt Reeves Reviewed by Patrick & Paul Gibbs  Out of Four Andy Serkis as Ceasar T here are some movie moments you never forget. For us, one of those was the moment when a room full of cynical critics, who were all rolling their eyes and making monkey jokes before a closed press screening of Rise of the Planet of The Apes,  let out an audible and collective gasp when Caesar (Andy Serkis) said "No." Draco Malfoy had just spoken one of the most referenced hammy movie lines of all time ("Get your stinkin' paws off me you damn dirty ape!") and a chimpanzee talked back to him. You would think this would have been a moment to inspire chuckles, bit instead a chill went through all of us. The scene was
